3 Replies and 1727 Views fine gold recovery  1727  3 Started by  randy82271@gmail.com I have only been in to gold hunting for about a year. I always wanted to try and finally took the leap at the Alabama gold camp. The camp is mostly fine gold in courtesy piles. And a little bigger sometimes in creek but harder digging. My question is. I run a high banker and classify to 3/8 thru my header box. Would it be best to classify to a little bigger than gold you will find and bypass all the other larger stuff And take a chance of missing that rare nugget. Think blasting o...

7 Replies and 1864 Views Colorado Update, HIT IT NOW  1864  7 Started by  crashcrain@gmail.com Ron and Stacy Kennedy came up from Texas and wanted to work some claims so he gave me a call and I took him down to the FLW, BOSS, and Snake City Claims. It was a good trip and a decent amount of flood gold and one small nugget found. I myself just went down with shovel, classifier, bucket and pan. Ron carried down a small sluice and we worked two different areas in a bend of the claim. It wasn't the best spot on the river but at least I knew it had color and the scenery is beautiful. No rattles...

5 Replies and 2319 Views Gold Ore  2319  5 Started by  33oneworld@gmail.com I have a benchmark 15 ton punch press that I made a crusher for to crush rocks down for tumbling. I can make it crush to powder also. Is it worth it for me to get Gold Ore to crush and try to get the gold out or is it just to fine for the beginner with limited resources. I have sheets of aircraft aluminum and I made my own sluice box. I bought the burlap, minor moss and the 'V' groove matting along with a set of riffles. I have been running the sluice at 7 degrees right now in basement into a ...

5 Replies and 1827 Views Ohio Panning  1827  5 Started by  33oneworld@gmail.com I have found some Gold in the western part of Ohio under a super magnifier but nothing that the kids seem to enjoy. Are there still places that you can go and find flower Gold or just a bit bigger I was going to buy some pay dirt just to let them have fun but since Im a member I would rather go and hunt for it on a claim which to me is part of the learning and adventure. Thanks for your time and any guidance is better then none.

4 Replies and 1887 Views Colorado, a bad year for prospecting  1887  4 Started by  crashcrain@gmail.com I am sorry I have not posted in a long time but I have kept in touch with a few members. I want to let you know the conditions of Colorado are not good at all for even rafters, they are dying weekly, and the main melt hasn't even really begun yet. I was at two claims that we would normally work this time of year just 4 weeks ago and the water was so high, fast, and full of debris it was impossible to even approach. Three weeks ago I was in Telluride and saw that the head of the San Miguel Ri...

2 Replies and 1930 Views UPDATE from Colorado  1930  2 Started by  crashcrain@gmail.com I am sorry to say that the full melt is now on and the rivers are worse then I last reported, entire islands are gone, huge banks washed out, and giant boulders moved down stream. Even the 'Telluride Watch' news letter is warning people to stay out of the river unless you are a extreme expert rafter because the entire river has changed shape and there is a great deal of debris moving in the fast and high water. One of my fellow claim owners is heading down to a area that is usually very low ...

2 Replies and 1289 Views Colorado Update, now is the time to start planning a trip  1289  2 Started by  crashcrain@gmail.com I was in Telluride 'To Hell You Ride' last weekend, the head of the San Miguel River was still hanging with ice, but the water has slowed and cleared. I am going to be taking a member to some of our claims, and my personal claim, plus recreational rich claims. Our window this year is from now to about the second to third week of September. Be safe, the water is still fast and snow is already falling at high elevation. Bring your wet gear, cold weather gear, warm weather gear, mosquito repelle...

13 Replies and 2942 Views Claims Guide vs Website Coordinates  2942  13 Started by  theasthmatics@aol.com On the site, it gives totally different GPS coordinates for the ingress/center mark than what is in the mining guide (2018) for the Crimson Dove claims in Utah. The website coordinates (which, unless I'm mistaken, only give the ingress and center -- no corners) put the claim in the Fishlake National Forrest, close to the Fremont Indian State Park, right in Mill Creek The guide coordinates put it about 20 miles southeast in the middle of a swath of desert. Which is correct I've got a c...
