Ron and Stacy Kennedy came up from Texas and wanted to work some claims so he gave me a call and I took him down to the FLW, BOSS, and Snake City Claims. It was a good trip and a decent amount of flood gold and one small nugget found. I myself just went down with shovel, classifier, bucket and pan. Ron carried down a small sluice and we worked two different areas in a bend of the claim. It wasn't the best spot on the river but at least I knew it had color and the scenery is beautiful. No rattlesnakes were present this trip or any bears for that matter but it was a good time and it was great meeting another fellow Texan, Ron and his wife Stacy.
They can attest to the hiking conditions, it's not for the faint of heart. The mornings are about 34 degrees and the afternoon around 95 degrees, and the road is hard.
I always like to say that the Journey to Hell is easy, finding your way out is the hard part. There is a rock that marks the beginning and ending of the never ending hill, I know Stacy and Ron will always remember that rock and I found a nice piece of agate and another nice rock for them to remember the trek, it can be very difficult.

We had a wonderful time in the woods and a great hike working with Ben was a very good experience he knows a lot about about the area
and how to find gold he has my recommendation for top go to gold guy in the area I cant wait until next time

My name is Matt and I also am a determined greenhorn. I was wondering has anyone been out to the Homack claim here lately? I am going to be there Sept 20 and 21st for my first time to any GPAA Claim. Anyone have any pointers about the claim. I planned on starting off on the creek bed than working my way up the channel coming down from in between the two hills. I can't wait this is on the bucket list for years to come!!!

Matthew,
I would click on properties and read the reviews of the claim first before going. This time of year the creek may have very little water or none at all.
If you live in the Denver area I would recommend Arapahoe Bar. I have had good luck at that location.

Thanks Scott. Yeah I went through all of the online claims for Colorado. I didn't want to get to far into the mountains but I did want a lot of choices on a claim that is why I chose Homac. I saw the reviews for it but it seemed like all the reviews are from people whom were panning in the creek and I actually wanted to try my luck following that gold to its source if I can get on the gold. I didn't think that the Arapahoe Bar would be that interesting I guess because it is in the city. I also want to be kind of in a remote place to learn to read the land and educate myself on the terrain. I was a grunt with the 101st Airborne Division so I don't mind a hike or the challenge of the terrain I guess.

I don't care much for urban prospecting either . The sound of traffic is not pleasing, but you do get some gold.

I found a really good spot up near clear creek canyon... It is not marked as a prospecting spot but it's way past all the tourist stops. I dug up in there for an hour and found 12 nice sized flakes. And it is a very easy spot to access. If anyone wants to hit it up with me let me know, I have a mini electric dredge that can really pull a lot of dirt as well as a gold cube with a high banker addon and a spiral wheel for the final product.

Hey Robert,
I will be over near tunnel #1 outside of Golden. maybe for two days just depends on if the water is too high. If you wanna meet up and hit some spots get ahold of me at coxm75@yahoo.com. I plan on hitting the Homac Claim that everyone says is lousy, but I want to find out if it is true or if they didn't put in the work to find the gold. I may have to climb some but if you would be interested in going let me know I am going to hit the Homac in the mornings than head over to the tunnel during the day after lunch and pan and crevice and detect. I will be out there Sept 20 & 21st.
