Permit guidelines / generally acceptable practices 3285 4
Started by Mr.briancosta@gmail.com
I am very familiar with the rules and regulations of fishing fresh and saltwater so i will try to draw a parallel with those regulations. When i was first getting into fishing i quickly learned that there is a lot to learn from both the regulation guidelines and from other fishermen/women. Wondering if there is similar guidance that can be advised here on the following: -If i have a GPAA mining claim card/permit and am going on a claim to prospect....I know i need my card and mining guide ...

New to Prospecting- Oregon 1064 0
Started by robertdmcgee@gmail.com
I have been going through the prospecting forums for claims in the State of Oregon. By what I have read, there aren't too many and finding very little color to make it worth while. My main concern is the accessibility of the GPAA claims in my State. 2WD vehicle as well, so that has to be taken into consideration as to where I can go. I have panned in SD in the area of Deadwood back in August, spoke to BLM there where I can pan and I had a lot of fun. 2.73g isn't too bad for a first timer. I...

Question about basic rules for working claims 1744 1
Started by wgmccarthy99@gmail.com
Hey there, I'm a new guy that's excited to work some of the claims around my area and beyond! I remember seeing some sort of list of rules to follow on claims, but can't find it anymore. I also wanted to ask one thing in particular. I went to a claim today and was able to find a high bench up from the river that I wanted to work. Is this allowed I would be taking down buckets to the river to run through my sluice. For some reason I remember reading a rule that sounded like it said I could...

New York Tri-State Area 1567 0
Started by jgironesr50@gmail.com
I have only been prospecting for the last two years and I'm still a greenhorn. I would like to meet up with fellow prospectors/rock hounds to enhance my knowledge, learn better techniques and explore the east coast (mostly my area of New York - Putnam County). I only have limited weekends to enjoy life with peace of mind in this wonderful fashion. Any help, tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. One of my motto's is 'I'd rather be moving a few tons of rock by hand, than do what I do...

Legal Equipment on a GPAA claim in Alaska 2360 2
Started by dsevernsgrant@gmail.com
I have a quick question reference legal mining equipment in the Chugach National Park Alaska. The land is federal and specifies prospecting with hand equipment only. The discussion does not reference private claims in the park. So does this limit us to hand equipment only on a GPAA claim within this park or should I contact The Park Rangers I will contact the claim owner as in this one case I know who it is. This is not always the case. Thank you Daniel.

Southern California on Arizona border 2379 8
Started by Axiomologist@axiomologies.org
I own 30 acres in California. I did not buy it for prospecting, but after a few rockhounds and one friend who used to be in mining came out, I have been looking at it with new eyes. I know there were two gold mines above my property the last closed either late 50s or early 60s. I also know the markers for gold are there and the land is virtually untouched. And it's covered in multi-layers of magnetic black sand. So I have been panning samples i brought into town with me (during this co...

Regulations on mini-sluice use in Idaho 4048 5
Started by Danieljellis5@gmail.com
I'm quite new to prospecting and would like to check if anyone knows off hand if a mini-sluice (same as one sold in GPAA store) being used with a battery powered recirculation system would be legal to use onsite at the river in Idaho Looked on some government websites for Idaho and could not find specific mention of that particular kind of set-up. This would be public access along the Snake river near Riggins, ID.

Hi All, I just received my membership cards today. I am trying to plan a trip for my family to give prospecting a try. I was wondering if someone could suggest the best place for a family of greenhorns to give it a go. Also since I am sure many people go to the leased or owned sites is there really any gold left there to find Thanks Rod

Plumas county claims 2905 5
Started by billsshadow@comcast.net
Hello guys and gals. I'm new to gpaa. I caught the gold bug almost 25 years ago when a coworker of mine asked me to attend an outing with him. It was just he and I that went. We went up to el Dorado county somewhere between placerville and Georgetown California. It was a snipping trip and we hiked in to the area he and his partner were working. They stashed their gear at the site so I was going to use his partners stuff but he had apparently gone up and removed his stuff so I wasn't able to get ...
