0 Replies and 724 Views We have concentrates. We just need someone who can extract the gold  724  0 Started by  david@ucvcfunding.com My boss is part owner of a pretty famous gold mine and because of this we have about 50k tons of concentrate and hard rock ore left over from the exploration stage of his project. This particular ore is known to have high concentrations of gold, silver and other PGM's, but one of the issues we're having is that normal fire assays are not picking up all the gold. Much of the gold is being washed away. We need a master assayer that can extract hard to get gold through a chemical or atomic procedur...

14 Replies and 9335 Views Phone GPS in the field  9335  14 Started by  joe@jas-gold.com A lot of people think you need Wi-Fi to use a cell phone GPS in the field.   That is not true if the app will download maps 'GPS Waypoints Navigator' for android will do that.   In fact I recommend you turn off Wi-Fi and Data to conserve your Phone battery. If left on the phone keeps checking for a connection and will drain the battery in no time. I have a couple of old phones I keep around just for the GPS.   I have some 1000 plus waypoints on my phone. I mark and label ev...

3 Replies and 34372 Views club claims and or your own?  34372  3 Started by  j_pavli@hotmail.com    I was just wondering how many of the members here go strictly club claims or have their own in addition. I would think if you have your own piece of the pie you would be too busy to even bother with the club claims. Heck for that matter you probably don't even post here except for entertainment value Eh

5 Replies and 13431 Views Mining claims on GPS  13431  5 Started by  mtbassman@msn.com Hi guys. I don’t know how many of you uses your GPS for accessing claims but I emailed onX maps here in Montana because they make land ownership software for your Garmin. I asked them if they could make a layer in their program with mining claims. They responded that if enough people asked for it they would make it! So if you could go to onXmaps.com and go to support and contact them about this layer, maybe we could get them to do this. I know it would be really handy in the field for knowi...

4 Replies and 3551 Views Bad Prospecting Ethics  3551  4 Started by  thetaoscosmos@gmail.com I was working the Placer Creek claim in New Mexico yesterday and came across this area where someone had dug along and beneath the Forest Service trail that accesses the claim from Hopewell Lake.  This is along Forest Road 356A.  Not only does this conflict with the standard guidelines of not digging into stream banks ~ one of the conditions the Forest Service is clear about when obtaining authorization to prospect on this claim ~ it's pretty stupid and disrespectful to cause damage to...

(Less than $5.00 total, and it will probably last you all season.) Find a spot in the creek where you want setup equipment then go up stream a bit. (Anywhere from 50' to a 50 yards depending on the stream.) Take about 3ft. of twine string fishing line. Stay away fro ribbon, it floats. (Actually you want about 1 1/2' longer than the stream is dee...

0 Replies and 1745 Views diamond prospecting  1745  0 Started by  rrhobdy Now that I am retired, I took up the hobby of diamond prospecting.  It uses the same equipment as gold prospecting and very easy to do in some of the most beautiful scenery there is.  If you want to start, try Crater of Diamonds first, where you will get to learn about diamonds.  Then read up on the internet on where there are diamonds to be found elsewhere in the USA.  I prefer Colorado and Wyoming which has a history of finds.  There is an old saying: ' If you want to ...

3 Replies and 12608 Views Panning practice at home  12608  3 Started by  17CCRAMER@GMAIL.COM My father taught me this. You get some dirt in your gold pan (a normal pan full ) then you put about 10-15 steel BBs into the dirt and mix it in. The steel BBs are not as heavy as gold but heavier than the dirt. Pan normally until you get your 'concentrates' and see how many BBs are left in the pan. This is a good way to see how much gold you are losing when panning also. My father was a professional gold miner for big companies in California and Nevada. His hobby was prospecting. If y...

5 Replies and 11032 Views weighing gold  11032  5 Started by  dsabbo@sbcglobal.net I have an old vial with a small amount of gold in it.  I would like to weigh the gold to see just how much is in there. I just bought a small digital scale but now I'm wondering just how to weigh only the gold. I can weight an empty vial, but not the amount of water unless it is still mixed in with the gold.  Now, somewhere and long ago, I read an article about just how to do this, but I can't remember where or when or how. Any suggestions as to how or where I might have read about th...

8 Replies and 15844 Views What Classifier Sizes  15844  8 Started by  civilian_again@yahoo.com I am looking at getting more classifiers. I have the 2 (1/2') and 8 (1/8') mesh classifiers by Keene. I am going to use a 100 for (Blue Bowl and Miller Table). What sizes do you feel are best to add before the 100 mesh or can I just go from the 8 straight to the 100  My concern is having to much to dig through, in the classifier, if I make a big jump like this. Thanks
