The first time I met David “Boo Coo” Haas was at the Lost Dutchman’s Mining Association camp at Italian Bar in California back in the early ’80s. I had seen Boo Coo around camp. He wasn’t hard to miss. He would play his mandolin and sing and drink around the campfires in the evening, but it wasn’t until my father, George “Buzzard” Massie, invited him to our mining 
operation deep in the canyon below the camp that I got to know Boo Coo better.

Gold shows set for Indiana, North Carolina

First of seven events to kick off in Pleasanton, Calif in February

The Gold Prospectors Association of America had added two more Gold & Treasure Shows to its 2017 schedule — one in Indiana and another in North Carolina. The first of seven GPAA Gold & Treasure Shows will kick off in Pleasanton, Calif. Feb. 11-12. As a special feature  of this event, a National Raffle with more than $15,000 worth of prizes will be broadcast live on Facebook for those who can’t attend the show. GPAA launches online Mining Guide

Leveraging the knowledge, experience of all members

For years now, members have been asking about getting online access to the GPAA Claims Club Membership Mining Guide. In the past, updated versions of the Mining Guide were released every two to three years based on the number of updates from the prior edition. The Pick & Shovel Gazette was used as a tool to help provide bi-monthly updates to members between edition releases, but with the advancements in technology, members have asked why an online edition has not been introduced.
