Currently I own a Minelab Eureka Gold which works great.  I wanted to get a 2nd detector which is easier to use and waterproof.  Which Garrett do you recommend AT PRO or AT Gold?  I'm currently going for the AT Gold but I want hear opinions on this.

    Thanks

I love my AT Gold. I don"t know much about your Minelab but if it is a VLF machine, you might want to see if your budget will go for a Garrett ATX which is a pule induction machine that is waterproof and has a really good reputation as a Nugget machine and in the water.

AT Pro will work at the beach, while the AT Gold is not recommended for use on a beach.

I use my AT Gold on th beaches here in Florida. Neither machine is recommended in the Salt Water. Salt water machines tend to be good for just that and not good nugget machines.

The AT Gold operates at a slightly higher frequency than the Pro making it better for gold. What you sacrifice with the AT Gold is notch discrimination, although you do get two other preset choices with which to search. The AT Pro will give you ultimate control over all discrimination, but at a lower frequency.

I just bought a new Garrett AT Gold and my reasons were because...

    1. 18 kH vs 15 kH... The Gold operates at a slightly higher frequency which makes it more sensative to smaller targets such as Gold Nuggets.

    2. True All Metal Mode... The Gold has it and the Pro does not. I mostly relic hunt in the desert and will be also Nugget Shooting, both of which, I want to see everything and when operating in All Metal Mode (which any machine will have increased depth in All Metal Mode over Disc Mode)

    3. The Iron Audio... Which is awesome! Again, when Relic and Nugget Shooting, the Iron Audio makes target I.D. more efficient which is different then discrimination btw.

    4. Enhanced Ground Balance Capabilities... I mostly desert hunt which means I mostly hunt on hot ground and being able to better GB means I will be able to better enjoy my hunts as an unground balanced machine is both not as good as well as it's so annoying!!!

    5. I recall an interview with the "Diggers" on some show (maybe Gold Prospecting Radio?) and they were asked which machine do they mostly use and or prefer in their personal time... They both answered with the Garrett AT Gold...

Sooooo.... I GOT ONE! Can't wait for it to arrive! In fact I ALSO GOT the Garrett ATX Deepseeker coming at the same time LOL

Question: can I use the Xterra 705 from LDMA membership in water as-is?

The Xterra 705 isn't submersible in water.

most modern machines have waterproof coils so you can wade in the water just dont get the control box or upper cable connection wet
