Hello all,
This is my first post and first time being a member of GPAA. After watching Tom Massie for a very long time on the Outdoor Channel, and wanting to join this grand organization I was able to do so this year. As I said I have been a fan of the Gold Fever show for a long time, but never really could afford to join the GPAA until this year. Things have changed a bit for me over the years. My oldest son is moving off to college this month. My daughter is a se...

LDMA news for GPAA members 2872 0

Normally I don't care as I am considering joining the LDMA. But the one word topic 'Fire' next to Scott Bar information category kind of makes me wonder. There are regular GPAA claims in that area too. And look at the long line of Duisenburg Auction item postings. Us regular GPAA members have cash too you know

Hi! I'm a newby to GPAA as of today! This summer we've been panning in Colorado, with little success and are heading to CA. to visit friends in Auburn CA. for a few days. We would like to go panning near there for just a day or day and a half but know that there are a lot of areas closed and would love some help narrowing down the search. Anyone have any ideas Thanks for any leads....

Need help with battery selection 5896 3
Started by rhunt01@ius.edu
Hello:
I am building a sluice that will be fed with a Johnson 2200 GPH 12 V pump; it draws 7.5 amps. Does anyone know reasonably priced deep cycle (or regular) battery that will run this pump for 6 hours or so. Realistically, I will run the slice 6-8 times a year. So, I don't know if I really need a deep cycle battery for this number of recharges per year. Maybe I do Thanks ahead.

Intro and Report 4560 4

My name is Scott, I joined at the last show in Mesa. I have been collecting gear for over a year, doing some research...stuff. After joining I started putting my stuff together and trying to work out bugs and how things run. A couple of weeks ago I took my son and finally went out to a claim. I just dug up a couple of buckets of dirt from spots/areas that looked good from what I have researched. I am really looking to get out with some of you so I can learn. I brought the buckets home and r...

Hello Fellow Prospectors,
I am going to Coker Creek GPAA claim in Tennessee in the next few days to prospect. I have tried to contact the claim owner but I think I have the wrong number. I am very excited I have two sluices and a lot of great pans to mine with. If anyone has any information on this claim. Maybe if there is a new number or a sign in area there i need to know about. Also if anyone has done some work there it would be greatly appreciated if you had any spots that you remembe...

I just moved to the Leavenworth KS area and am looking for anyone with local knowledge that I could tag along with poking around. I am relatively new to the prospecting game but want to learn what I can from those who know. Just shoot me a PM if you live in the area. Thanks in advance.

Spriggs Property Ohio - any tips 6226 1
Started by rhunt01@ius.edu
Hello:
I am planning my first visit to a GPAA site - the Spriggs property near Lucasville, OH. I will only have about 6 hours at the site. Anyone been there who can give some advice on a work plan. I have a small sluice. Since it is on a large river I am concerned if there is enough flow and drop--otherwise, shovel and pan. Any tips on good spots that might lead me to my first nice flake or nugget would be appreciated. Thanks

Battery charging. 8328 10

What is the best way to charge a 12v battery in the field Will a direct 12v(car lighter out)to alligator clips work Jumper cables It seems easy enough but this will be our first outing and I have no direct experience nor have I observed this accomplished firsthand. Cars have evolved from the simple machines of yesteryear and I do not wish to damage myself/others or the vehicles electronics. So I am asking, how do YOU Field Charge the 12v batteries that power your gold grabbing devices ...

Permits 4616 2
Started by benji27potf@yahoo.com
Hi, I plan on going onto the GPAA claims to pan, sluice and metal detect. The counties I plan on visiting are in El Dorado and Plumas counties.
What kind of prospecting requires permits in CA
Might seem like a silly question but I rather be safe than sorry.
Also to visit these GPAA claims, do I have to get a hold of the claim owner or is that something that members can visit anytime
Thank you for your time.

Any good ideas where to go I will likely bring my Whites TLD and a pan, classifier, and water...

Trying Out Idaho 12407 8
Started by Sopchoppy7@aol.com
Hi to everyone out there. I am new to GPAA (so forgive any ignorant questions). My son and I are heading out west in June with a final destination of Idaho to give prospecting a hearty try. I am planning on trying out the GPAA claims while there. I just read that you can also request a 3 day trial to LDMA once. Are there any LDMA claims in Idaho I welcome any advice that could help us be a little less green while working for that first flash of gold.

I am new to this whole thing, so any help will be appreciated. I ended up on a family trip and we will be heading to the Black Hills of SD today for a few hours. The rest of the family wants to hit the casinos, but I would much rather be outside playing in the dirt. I wasn't expecting this stop so I don't have any equipment with me, so I was wondering if there was anything in the Deadwood area that could be productive and where I could get at lea...

I need a small fireplace shovel 5931 2
Started by rhunt01@ius.edu
Several weeks ago (before joining) I ran into a couple of members of the southern Indiana GPA at Morgan/Monroe State Forest where large shovels are not permitted. Had a nice conversation but I forgot to write down their names (I have trouble remembering names). Anyway, one of them showed me a small, flat bottomed fireplace shovel that I just have to have. Lowe's has a cheap fireplace shovel that a five year old could bend in half. I have looked all over the internet, but ...
