1 Replies and 5389 Views Coarse gold found  5389  1 Started by  bward916@gmail.com While prospecting in a particular location near a steep stream, I pulled some loose material material from underneath some tree roots. There wasn't any black sand in my pan, but lots of quarts and even some clear quartz crystals. Most rocks I've only ever found placer gold ... so this was a bit of a surprise to me. What does this mean  Does it mean that there is a vein nearby  Should I pull out my metal detector or pan some more The piece of gold that I found was very small - ...

3 Replies and 4852 Views Greenhorn with question about Western Kansas  4852  3 Started by  marchuebner2000@yahoo.com Hi I am about as green as it gets. Has anyone tried western Kansas streams and creeks I am just assuming some of the water coming from Colorado and Wyoming would push some flower gold this way. From what I have been researching most of the land is privately owned but there has places that are not and can be checked. Just not wanting to drive 12 hours or 14 hours to Colorado to go prospecting.

3 Replies and 4619 Views New Oregon member  4619  3 Started by  Rawdoggoffroad1@aol.com Hi all new member here, I am planning a trip over to sumpter and would like to run the new high banker I'm building at the burnt river claims, but I can't find out what I can or can't do. Do I need some kind of permit and if so how do I get one. I emailed the caretakers but have not herd back yet. Also if anyone owns a superhog high banker I have some question about dimensions on the header box. Thanks for reading and any info. I would appreciate. Matt

We went to the Arkansas river in Colorado in June & there was a lot of what the locals were calling flood gold The problem is that most of it is so small ~ 100 mesh or less ~ we are having a very difficult time recovering it from the cons we brought home. Any help would be much appreciated Thanks, Kevin

10 Replies and 8862 Views Coordinate Converter Apps  8862  10 Started by  Jputke@hotmail.com Hello everyone, I am a new member to GPAA and anxious to get down to Arizona this winter and work some of the claims. So I have been spending a lot of time looking over different maps and satellite views to try to pick out areas that look like places I would like to try and mark them. My problem was every map resource I looked at used a different GPS format. That added a lot of extra work and brain drain going from one format to another. Then I thought they should have an app to convert the d...

6 Replies and 6596 Views Crevicing in low producing areas?  6596  6 Started by  odokevin@gmail.com hey everyone, I have a nearby spot that i like to pan, although with my inexperience I get excited for a small flake in about every other pan.  there isn't a lot of gold in this brook to begin with, JUST enough to keep me coming back, trying to build and hone my skills. there is a lot of decomposing ledge, leaving many sharp ridges a couple inches deep. if I'm not finding much behind the big rocks, would it be worth it to open up a handful of the bigger crevices I know experience comes wi...

0 Replies and 3039 Views Fine Gold Processing  3039  0 Started by  kevin@gillas.com Do you have an recommendations for spiral separators that is designed for gold and black sand mix  The blue bowl looks too temperamental. I was going back through my black sand that I panned and finding as much gold as I got when I panned it.  The miller table is just going too slow for the amount of black sand that I have to process.  I'm assuming from what I read this is the best way to process the material unless I want to go to a shaker table Kevin G.

3 Replies and 6134 Views Something not to do!  6134  3 Started by  crashcrain@gmail.com   If you are a diabetic I cannot stress enough how important it is that you care for your feet. Recently my mining partner forgot his water boots and just used his regular shoes and continued to wear them, needless to say he developed Trench Foot or Jungle Rot, us Veterans know what that means. So when he first showed it to me I was in shock of how bad it was and spent over an hour pulling out sock debris, gravel, dirt, etc.... I got it cleaned and soaked it in betadine and started checkin...
