Crimson Dove quick trip.

There was a lot of evidence of prospecting in the creek bed. We did not have a lot of time on this trip as we were just on a day trip to find the claim. Three pans netted one flaky color.
Notes: This is bear country so keep trash and food secure. There are also rattlesnakes in the area. Keep yourself and your pets safe. Claim is at an elevation of 6000 – 6500 feet so keep this in mind if you are not used to elevation. It is in a mix of Juniper, Pinon, and Ponderosa pine. There is camping nearby. The Castle Rock campground is on the south side of the freeway. It has primitive RV or tent spaces, restrooms, and water available. Spaces include fire pit, picnic table, and bbq grill. The Fremont Indian State Park is also nearby. This is an interesting park where you can see petroglyphs. There is also a museum. East of the park is the Sam Stowe RV park with full hookups. Both campgrounds have online reservations.

The upper part of the claim is probably your best chance for success. But it's not easy and the terrain is very steep. It can be very dangerous, lots of waterfalls and endless possibilities. But also very discouraging. I didn't find much this trip. But I know the area and it's history. The right spot can be very rewarding. If your not comfortable in steep dangerous terrain, then the lower part of the claim is your best bet.

I like the accessibility to these claims. You can get there with 2x4, but if you want to drive further up then I would use 4x4. Or just hike further up. So I whent there with my pan, and 24'' sluice. I was prospecting the whole time, so I moved around a lot. I didn't find much there, but I did get some gold. I found that most of the good stuff is right on bed rock, the problem is there is not a lot of bed rock that you can see. Most of the bedrock is at the turnoff of the highway and by Sevier canyon. I will be back at these claims again and will post pics.

Start out by acquiring a Sluicing permit form the Utah Division of Water resources https://waterrights.utah.gov and search for Recreational dredging permit application Mill Creek. This is for both dredging and sluicing.

Small flakes and flour

Been to this claim a few times this year. You can find bigger than the average flour and fines that Utah is known for. My recent trip yielded my best result so far, as far as sizable flakes are concerned. Ran four buckets through a 50" sluice, on an overnight trip. Ended up with some small flakes and fines. It's there, you got to look for it.
