Kevin, & anyone else who may have info.

I'm leaving the Wickenburg area early May and heading to Alaska for the summer for sightseeing and gold detecting.
I'm a confident owner & user of a GPX 5000 and Gold Monster.
Detecting is all I'll be doing and maybe some panning.

I'm interested in info about detecting the Central claims, the public prospecting areas out of Fairbanks listed in the 50th anniversary mining guide and any other areas in Alaska.

I'll be towing a 40' 5th wheel toy hauler and have a SxS for getting out from camp, wherever I may be.

    A few questions:
Is it a possibility there are detectable nuggets out of the creeks?
Will I likely be able to camp on the Central claims?
How "hot" is the area mineralized.
Is a mono coil suitable? I'm sending my DD in for repairs.

I'm looking forward to hearing any and all feedback from you and others.

    Thanks everyone!

    Aaron,
Great questions and I apologize for not responding quicker. I have asked IT to see of they can fix the issue of me not being notified every time a new topic comes into the "Ask Kevin" section.

    1. Is it a possibility there are detectable nuggets out of the creeks?
Yes it is possible in the right areas. You will have to do a bit of prospecting to find the areas that are rotting away and moving gold directly into Deadwood Creek. They are there although I have never really searched for them, I know others that have. most of the time these are small specimen pieces that contain enough gold to cause a detector to react to the whole over the singles.

2, Will I likely be able to camp on the Central claims?
For the most part yes. Some of the areas are trickly to get into and 40’ may not be an option but in Central there are campgrounds where you can drop the rig and use the SxS to get around.

    3. Will I likely be able to camp on the Central claims?
Not bad for the most part. There are concentration of iron soils that you want to find. Remember the old saying that where there is gold there is black sand. And always remember the other side of that as well, where there is gold there is black sand but not everywhere there is black sand is there gold.

    4. Is a mono coil suitable?
Sure, if the ground gets to hot for the mono make adjustments to the sensitivity to better match the detector to the ground. In most cases unless I am plagued with EMI I run a mono.

    Hope this helps.

    Kevin

    Thanks for the reply!
Your info will be very helpful for my prospecting vacation adventure. ⛏

A specimen would be a great find and maybe a nugget that didn't make it to the creek yet.

    Thanks again.
