I just dipped into the PI waters so to speak. The White's online manual just gives basic startup.

Any tips or experience with this machine appreciated. Have an MXT and MX-5 and some experience with the VLF side of things.
Won't ever be diving with it though.

Congrats on your purchase. I've been using a TDI SL for over two years and like mine. I have a GPX5000 and it has its place but I really like how lightweight the TDI is when I'm packing in somewhere. I found my very first nugget with the TDI so it'll hold a special place in my heart for ever!

The only tip I can offer that may help is don't over complicate it. It is a very simple machine to use and depends on the user to interpret the tones it is giving. My settings are:

    Gain at 10.
Ground Balance is usually around 7 but I have been in ground that the ground balance had to be off for the detector to work in.
    Pulse Delay at 10.
    Target Conductivity on All.
Freq in the middle (have never had to change this setting).
And finally the Threshold to where you can stand it. I use Nugget Buster headphones so I run my really low to where I can barely hear it.

Do you find much with your TDI? I have had a TDI Pro for about 5 years and have not found anything with it. I have many coils I bought for it, in order to swap out the factory stock coil and still nothing found. I have found small junk with it, although it was not too deep. But no gold. Perhaps I am not swing in good areas. Now that I have an SDC 23000 (minelab) I have more confidence in that machine than the TDI. Where do you run yours mostly at ? CA or AZ or NV?

Sorry... Didn't specify. I acquired the Surf PI Pro. Sealed box and 2 control knobs, gain and tuner.

    Leo,
I have only found the one nugget with my TDI SL so far but to be honest last summer I got into an area with really small gold and have been using my Gold Monster almost exclusively. This is tiny stuff I'm finding, no PI in the world would see it. I sure that if I had an SDC I'm pretty sure I'd be more confident too. It is in my opinion, from what I've seen, a better detector but I got what I got and I understand I have to work areas that help make the detector successful. I need to be close to or on bedrock.

I'm in Northern CA and working old mining areas. The ground is all over the place. Some areas are great, others so hot I won't use the VLF. And of course hot and cold rock galore! I really like the PI for those areas, far less rock digging with it lol.
