Long story short: I'm a scuba diver, new to GPAA & gold prospecting. I would love tips, places, and help with discovering potential spots to gold snipe in southern california.

Hello good members of the GPAA. I'm brand new to the world of gold prospecting/panning/recovery. I panned once or twice at some tourist paydirt places of the arm highway in Alaska. Recently I have bought a bunch of paydirts, got some pans I like, and I'm starting to get pretty good at managing my material and getting a near perfect recovery rate (in a tub at least).

I'm hooked completely. So I joined to the GPAA to find places to prospect and learn about while waiting out the storm. I recently learned about gold sniping, crevicing, or what ever you want to call it. I love the idea and I would love to get into it. I'm PADI certified with hundred or so hours under my belt and am a very experienced backpacker.

I currently live in Southern California and would love to find a spot to check out with a decent chance of finding anything.

Any tips, tricks, locations would be fantastic, hell even the names of some decently clear rivers would be a great help.

    Thank you all

if you are a good hiker and can do about 5 miles on a trail i would recommend Azusa Canyon East fork trail up to just past the bridge to nowhere. if you Google earth it you will see all the bedrock to work. some big old nuggets have come from there. a good book i have from well over 30 years on sniping for gold in So Cal list a few good spots.
Azusa Canyon all up East fork but bedrock is deep in a lot of spots
Sapphire area in Rancho Cucamonga - little known secret spot
San Antonio Creek - the creek that comes off Mt Baldy but the bed rock is really smooth here. I have posted a video on You Tube but i found no gold in the area i was.

hope that helps I have 2 water detectors and have detected those areas lightly with no success on gold but i did find some gold digging in the Ice House Canyon Creek. not much water though.

    enjoy and best of luck.

for Crevicing i have had alot of success in the East Fork on shallow Bedrock for Flakes and Fines some spots really close to the parking lot.. some small crevis tools and a sucker to clean out the bottom, a spoon and a pan is all you need to get that gold. i have done better crevasing than sluicing on a few occasions there.

    cheers!

    Thank you that's very helpful!

For places like this is there a good tool for seeing if it's a claim? Is there a real process for gold sniping? Do I need to fill out any paper work?

As for Rancho Cucamonga is Sapphire Falls the area you're talking about?

And for these types of spots do you suggest full dive gear or would snorkle be enough? I currently dive with a backplate which can be combersome, and while my titanium primary is light, my steel canister is NOT haha

Did you make any headway? I'm a Diver myself in the San Diego area and think it would be a fun niche to explore.
