Any info on the best detector to use in the Quartzsite, AZ area?

About 80 miles East in Wickenburg, either a PI or VLF will work. After the rains, the ground can be so hot, my VLF was useless, but the PI was fine.

Most important to go out and get over the gold. Lack of getting out seems to be my problem lately.

I decided to get a Gold Kruzer and have been pleased with it. In November I prospected the GPAA claim in Quartzsite and did not find anything but trash but most of the trash was small and deep which is a good sign. A friend found a small gold nugget about the size of a pinky finger fingernail. I have tested the Gold Kruzer with real gold and it performed very well. Like you said the important thing is to get out there! Hope to go back in January or February.

For Quartzsite I would suggest a Minelab Gold Monster 1000. In the Quartzsite area the gold seems to walk to the MGM 1000. Its like the Pied Piper of detectors for Quartzsite. Talk to Blake at the Miners Depot. I couldn't afford an MGM 1000 and its not that my detector is not good because it is but it doesn't have that special flute! Next time I'll take out a loan or get a bigger credit card. For now I just need to practice, practice , and more practice.

You are right Gary, practice, practice and practice some more. Getting to know your detector, understanding how and why it does things, is very important. It is the same for the Gold Monster, it has nuances just like every detector does. I've never used a Gold Kruzer but from what I've read you have a great gold detector, it sounds like you just need a little success to build your confidence with it. Keep swinging and it'll come sir.
