I got my Mining Guide,2014  edition today. I did my usual fast scan and noticed the following.

-It states you must have the following, GPAA prospecting permit , GPAA membership card, But they were included!

They use to be in the front of the Guide.

    - I use to be able to look under a state and get all the locations to prospect. Now they are scattered in several areas, Why?

-It shows the counties, but only in the places of interest section!

-The claim section use to start with a state map that showed the claim locations marked on the map in each state section.

I will get back to you after a more extensive read.    Frank...-

    HI Frank

I had a bit of getting use to but in retrospect, ( I use it every day so I get use to it rather quickly) I think the separation of claims from recreational and pay to dig sights will help with persons not familiar with an area so they don't get confused between the Mining Claims and the pay to dig or recreational sites. We have in the past has problems with this confusion. If you find errors there is a link on the forum to file those and I put it in an excel sheet for changes. Do not want to keep making the same error over and over.

Well, thanks for the reply. The thing is I travel to areas to prospect and detect and for me the old grouping was best. You could have used the present color coding at the top to avoid confusing the type of operation.  When I am on a trip cross country, I might stop and see what is available in that state. It is much easier to look in just one section.

When will the permits be sent out?      Frank...-

HI Frank I agree that it will get some getting use to. I have not been in field for a while but do not think it will be a great hindrance for person experienced in the guide but I think it will be a great help for the new person coming in that does not realize there is a difference in claims, leases and recreational areas. I have been approached by many new members that do not realize the difference. Hope it works for you.

Hay Ginger took care of the problem.  Thanks Ginger

Frank, as a lifetime, you should have the lifetime card, and your old permit should also show lifetime,or still be good.  If  not contact the office.

    Mine came with my renewal.

Im still waiting on my Guide. My thinking is that maybe the Pony Express is still running here in Nevada and my guide is changing horses and grabbing a bowl of beans in Fallon?

    Hey Chris,

You were right....I was driving through Fallon on Wednesday and I seen the horse loaded down with bags of guides, but the rider was laying out under a tree completely drunk......I stopped and grabbed mine........should of grabbed extras....

The process is changing due to the fact that there are life members over 100 still using there card.
You now have to send in a copy of our drivers license to prove you are still alive. lol

I sent it into Ginger and she straightened it out. We can't have the walking dead roaming the claims. lol Frank...-

O ,you want to see my life member card?  lol

I got my plastic life membership card Yesterday, but no claim card. I E-Mailed Ginger at GPAA and she told me that the life plastic card is also a claim card. I mounted it in the front of my 2014 claim guide. I got to tell you, that office staff has done right by me. I can't begin to visualize the problems they have to overcome in the reorganization.
I am glad Brandon wrote that article in the July/Aug gold prospector Mag. It explained a lot of things. I wish him luck. Frank...-
