I'm going to be heading to eastern Oregon in August to do some metal detecting. I have a 3 day pass for the LDMA Blue Bucket camp and I'm going to check out the 3 GPAA claims on Burnt river. I'll be using a Goldbug2 and I'll be looking for the real small gold. Has any one metal detected on the Blue Bucket camp or any of the GPAA claims on Burnt river. I've had a hard time finding any information or comments from people metal detecting these areas.

I did a little detecting on the east side of the Starla's a few years ago, mostly around the borrow pit on the NE corner.  Was using a new MXT and trying to learn it, so was a bust.  Did some sample pans on the Starla's as well, but came  up empty.  Your best bet might be the Eagle Rock claims, up the ravine. Would be worth a stop at the Burnt River camp and talk to Jim and Pam, they would have current info.

This time of year, watch out for rattlers.

With the fire that went through the area a couple of years ago, and winter erosion, you might do OK.

Thanks for the reply Arthur Waugh, I sure hope it pans out or should I say metal detects out. When I get back I'll post my two cents worth. My back ground is dredging back in my early 20's on the Klamath river but now It's all about MD'ing, and I'll make sure I watch out for those pesty critters. and thanks again for the reply.

My adventure to the Burnt river claims went good, I was able to check out the 3 GPAA claims, I was only able to MD the Eagle Rock claims, didn't find any gold in the 2 hours I was there, it was a little warm but the area looked promissing, I posted a small report for Eagle Rock 1 & 2. The other 2 GPAA claims have some possibilities for MD'ing on the otherside of the river. If you want to see a bunch of Longhorn Sheep, the Burnt River Canyon is the place to go, I must have seen over 75 of them. I had a 3 day pass for the Blue Bucket Property, nice looking area too. I did find a small piece of gold MD'ing in one of the dig areas using my Goldbug2, but lots of hot rocks, just go slow, low and easy, but alot of areas to work.
