Has anyone used the Gold Rush Nugget Bucket, if so would you recommend it.  I'm trying to find an easy and fun way for my elementary kids to start prospecting.

Yes. I absolutely recommend it. It was tested in Woods Creek in Jamestown CA and we panned the tailings and found some very small flour gold. We estimated the recovery at 90% or better and it is so easy to use. I still use mine on my material I bring home from claims. I like to classify to 1/2 in the field and bring some buckets back. For kids it would be outstanding.

I never heard of these, so I looked them up. Here is a picture so others know what is being discussed. Looks interesting.

I've taken it for a bunch of test drives. The bottom bowl get's blown out quickly from all the fine heavy black sands that are in the Bradshaw Mountain creeks and streams around Prescott Arizona. I panned what was in the bowl and compared it to every thing that spilled out. Same result. This might work for material that has more blond sands compared to black heavies as it will wash the lights out of the bowl. The makers suggested putting pebbles of different sizes in the bottom bowl to help keep the black sand from compacting. Didn't work either. I emailed the makers and the customer service was excellent. They refunded my money back to my Amazon.com acct. and said to keep the Nugget Bucket and also they would have an updated model and would keep me updated on it. I think the concept of it is very handy, especially in areas that do not allow sluices or mechanized prospecting. I hope they perfect what they have invented for folks with heavy black sand and flour gold material.

James Au is correct. Some finer material types did blow out the bowl. As a result, we have updated the design of the bowl to prevent this issue. The new bowl is now included in all kits sold as of August 28th. We also sell the new bowl on our website for $10 which includes free shipping anywhere. This new bowl is deeper and has vertical instead of 45 degree side walls. In our testing we achieved a true 99% recovery of the 200 mesh gold dust samples. These results were verified by panning the overflow material and compared to what was recovered in the bowl. We have sent James an updated kit for testing in his area and we are looking forward to his test.  Cheers, Gold Rush Nugget Bucket, Inc.  Attached is a picture of the new design.

Glad to see you guys in the forum <img src='http://www.goldprospectors.org/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_gpaa/emoticons/smile.gif' align="absmiddle" border="0" class="afEmoticon" />. Do you ever do sales or discounts on them? I’m just starting out and have 7 kids wanting to learn as well. I’ve already bought gpaa membership, mini sluice and classifiers. But have watched a few videos on these they have my interest.

**edited now I will be teaching 7 kids to prospect!**
