So I am buying a Garrett ATX Extreme w/ Deepseeker Package as well as the 8" Monocoil. I have seen much to do with an old bump falsing issue as well as falsing at the end of a swing. I found a vid by Bearkat on YouTube who did a comparison between the ATX and SDC and in it he mentioned Garrett knew of the issue and was working on a fix. That was 2 years ago. I did message Garrett and a few dealers on it. I am wondering if anyone has any "recent" experience using a "recent" version of the ATX and or any first hand knowledge on whether or not this issue has been fixed or improved. In looking around on forums and vids, it seems I don't hear much on it but ran into someone that did recently buy an ATX and stated they were having the same issue. Could they have bought old age inventory or a used ATX or did the issue never get resolved? I am awaiting a reply from Garrett but would like to hear from as many people as I can. If you are a die-hard Minelabs fan with no actual experience on a recent ATX, please keep any hate preaching to yourself. I am looking for real insights from unbiased people who can help me learn.

So I bought a new Garrett ATX Deepseeker and an 8" Monocoil. I also bought a new Garrett AT Gold. I am super excited and busting at the seams waiting for them to arrive. I look forward to mastering these great machines and hope I can offer great advice and help to other members who may have some future interest in any of these popular Garrett Detectors.

Don't know much about Garrett, but have heard that any detector can react to too fast swing at the end of swing. By way of Kevin Hoagland.

Yeap, especially if running hot and not properly ground balanced. I got enough very positive feedback by some well know people in our hobby who have or have had lots of time swinging the ATX. I was satisfied that whatever initial problems people had reported on the ATX when it first came out, was addressed by Garrett and everyone seems very happy now with the ATX... So I bought it. It was delivered 2 days ago and on Sunday I will get to take it out for the first time. I am super excited and will be sure to share my own experience with it.

So now that I have had the chance to use my ATX... I wanted to let everyone know how I felt about it. I can actually give my opinion based on experience and not just research now LOL...

THE Garrett ATX IS A VERY POWERFUL, STABLE, AND AWESOME MACHINE! Right out of the box... The high quality heavy duty construction is impressive and most impressionable.

I love the thought that went into its design. It packs away nice for easy storage and transport. But most of all... It's kick but performance is unbelievable. For my first time out I took it to the Southern Utah/Northern Arizona Border where the ground is so hot and full of mineralization that the mixture of red dirt, black sand and rock pebbles stick to magnets. All of these instability issues that I had heard of... Not my experience! No falsing, not even the chatter that I get there even with my AT Gold... It was smooth and accurate. Using the DD Stock coil I actually dug up an old tattered piece of foil about 3" in size 20" down... Although the find wasn't anything to brag about... It's the point of had there been a find that deep to brag about, this awesome machine will find it!

I desert hunt where VLFs can struggle and I spend most of my time digging 4" to 8" down for bullets, casings, soda cans, nails and such... With my ATX the goal is to ignore near surface finds... I look for faint signals which mean deep or tiny targets... I scrape away about 4" of the surface and resweep, if the target has moved, I move on... If it gets a bit stronger, I dig another 4" and so on... One must be at peace with not fully inspecting and iding every target. I mean isn't that what we do with VLF's as we discriminate target ids anyways LOL... Now if I were in Gold County, which I am not... Obviously I would be iding everything, but where I am in the desert hunting for relics... This machine will get me deep and that is where the good stuff awaits for me to dig it up!

I love the Garrett ATX... I actually got the complete Deepseeker package and 8" Monocoil. Anyone who is looking to take there detecting deeper... The Garrett ATX is a powerful, stable and AWESOME machine!

Shane the area that you spoke of.....I drove thru there last year from Las Vegas going to St George and Hurricane to look at a car I was thinking of buying. Going through the Virgin Valley pass.....was amazing....and I thought the geology looked promising for gold. So I had that on my mind the whole time. Are you saying that SW Utah and Northern Arizona has no gold to be detected using metal detectors   ?

    Hey Leo:

Well of course I imagine that gold viens and patches of nuggets lie in wait somewhere around nearby me. However, other than a little "flower" gold "somewhere," no great gold, other than byproduct, has ever been discovered. Silver and copper had been discovered back in the 1800s which did give "little to some" gold as a byproduct.

But you are right, in that there are a lot of the conditions that are right for gold except "sandstone," which is what all of the beautiful red rock that's been iron oxidized is made of, isn't normally a good source rock for precious metals like granite or basalt. Even when silver was discovered here in sandstone, it took several years for others to believe because even back then discovering silver or gold for that matter, in sandstone was believed to be impossible... Today we know it's possible, but still rare enough that I am fairly certain I won't run into it here locally but I try to stay optimistic and always very vigilant LOL.

So did you buy a car? I am curious to know what happened there? I happen to be in the car business here.
