Anyone know any good spots or prices ?
I went to K-river during the summer, the river was really low. Found some color but don't plan to return.
Good fishing and would be nice place for canoe rentals when the water is up

K-River, OK. A small but nice campground. Our local club in NETex has been going here for club outings for a few years. Club sets up dredges in river to demonstrate to club members. Other detecting clubs have held hunts here also. Gold is very fine & spotty, but have seen pics of some nice nugget found deep on bedrock. Heard that campground and facility was inundated by flood waters this past year(2015). The area is prone to high water/flooding during extreme weather/rain. Should call for current conditions. Here's some additional info on Ala Gold Camp. 10% discount on mining fees and camping fees for GPAA/LDMA members. No discount on cabins or hook-ups. There is a $5 (over 11) per day per person mining fee to access the camp beyond the office/store, this fee is in addition to any camping, cabin fees, or equipment fees(dredge/highbanker fees). The $5 a day allows you to pan or sluice all day, including access to paydirt stockpiles.
Huge areas to primitive camp in, primitive camping includes any self sustained (no hook-ups) camping. Campers, pop-ups, motorhomes, tent camping, all can be used to primitive camp. The $5 per night price is per person, over 17, no charge for the type of camper/camping you use while primitive camping. The area for full hook up camping is well kept and has a nice shower/bathroom pavillion, 30amp-- $25, 50amp-- $30.
Cabins are $65 per night, they have 2 beds, bathroom with shower, micro wave, mini fridge, tv and dvd/vcr player and more. Some cabins have satellite tv they are $70 or 75 per night.
Primitive camping also includes access to the bathroom and shower facilities. There is a washer/dryer available to use on an honor system basis, you use the machines and pay at the office. There is a small general store with a nice selection of goods you might need while camping, ice is available. Also firewood, you can but it buy the stack or have them bring you a small trailerload to your camp site.
They have a good stock of mining supplies from vials to dredges for sale. they have dredges and stream sluices to rent. There are highbankers set up (under sheds) to rent for $45 for 4 hours, price includes as much material as you can process.
The Highbankers prices to use your own highbankers are:
1"-1 1/2" -- $15
2'-2 1/2" -- $20
3" (MAX) -- $25
These prices include access to paydirt piles.
All mining fees, equipment fees, primitive camping fees listed here and previous post, are before 10% GPAA/LDMA discount. no discount for full hook-ups or cabins.
This is a real nice place, there are 4 creeks to work, 240 acres to explore, the folks are really nice and will give you all the help you need. The gold is pretty good, I've never been skunked running my 2" Gold Hog highbanker at the paydirt piles. This is my favorite commercial gold camp here in the SE.

I agree AGC is a real nice place. I've been there twice tent camping over at the hole in the wall and brought the RV up last summer. Good gold each trip. They even had a seal for my dredge pump at the store. Never checked out the cabins but they sound nice... |

Paul, forgot to mention, the Buchanan Farm Claim is an excellent place to dredge or high bank. Lots of really fine gold but in the last couple of years the dredges have been finding some pickets on the bedrock. Usually about 3 to 6 feet of over burden, some filled with really small flood gold.

Jim, sorry for the delay on the reply for K-River, OK. Not sure if or when our group will go back. Last meeting, it was discussed because of the rain problems to find another place. Trouble is, there isn't another place close by. But that said, we meet in Greenville, TX, the 3rd Sat of every month. Below is our chapter president's contacts. He sends out a newsletter the week before, just ask him to add you to the list. He also takes a group of Boy Scouts too sometimes.

The time I went with our club, we spent several hours with a 4 in dredge(I think). The day before they used a 2 in. Anyway, there was only a few specs to show for the effort. The owner of the campground came down to our camp and showed some pictures of 3 or 4 nice nuggets that someone had found a few years earlier. I think he said it was down on the bedrock 4 feet or more down through the gravel. By co-incidence, while in Colorado a year later, I met the guy who had actually dredged up those nuggets and he confirmed the story. But I think OK isn't known for much gold and this is a good teaching/learning/demonstration spot for equipment operation, when the river settles down.

Went to K river last August, the river was really low. Dredged a little and found some color but I don't plan to return.
Paid $65 a night for a cabin with A/C and hot shower (rotten egg smelling water, lol ).
Saw people catching fish, but water was too low for canoeing. |
