10 Replies and 16057 Views San Gabriel Mtn's, east fork river Gold camping trip  16057  10 Started by  thechargerdude@aol.com   Hi everybody,     For Labor Day Weekend, we headed to the San Gabriel Mountains in the Southern California area. The east fork river has been a hot spot for Gold since mining was invented. This rich Gold area should be a monument to Gold Miners     Our trip was crazy, no parking, I couldn't go where I wanted to go. There were cars parked all the way down the road, so we ended up at 'nugget alley' if you're familiar with the area. There had to be 200 campers there, ...

2 Replies and 8395 Views Whitestown, IN  8395  2 Started by  freddie.beckjr@yahoo.com I will be headed up to Whitestown Indiana this Sunday for work that week and will have some free time in the afternoons (after 5pm) and was hoping to be able to get into some creeks to do some sluicing /panning. If anyone is in the area or knows of the area and can point me in the right direction it would be great. Just wanting to do a little digging to relax from a busy day of work.

1 Replies and 9455 Views 9/17 Test trip  9455  1 Started by  freddie.beckjr@yahoo.com Ran with a buddy to test out my put together 2 1/2 inch dredge. it ran like a champ no real adjusting to do. The homemade flare box (yes with a traffic cone) and upper classifier section that I built worked great for its first outing. Hope you all like it. any comments or modification ideas welcome.

6 Replies and 12837 Views Stumbletown Gold camp at Italian Bar Ca.  12837  6 Started by  thechargerdude@aol.com    Hi everyone,      If you're looking for a fun Gold camping adventure in the Northern California Sonora & Columbia area, then Italian Bar is the spot. The public 'Stumbletown' camping area is only minutes from the LDMA camp. It was hot when we got there, 102* at 2:00 am. But the next day was 84*, really nice. We stayed a week, and found some good Gold, good BBQ, and just relaxed in the cool river. Here's a few pics...

0 Replies and 6498 Views Grand County Colorado, Kaufman Creek  6498  0 Started by  hooahextreme@gmail.com I used my Bazooka Gold Trap in Kaufman Creek.  I dug one hole along the bank down to a blue clay layer.  I only ran about 6 quarter full buckets of unclassified material.  I got fine gold and a bunch of black sand.  It was a fair rate of recovery for only a short time in an area where I have never prospected and had very little knowledge.  It is a beautiful place too with some good dispersed camping.

6 Replies and 12975 Views Georgia Gold  12975  6 Started by  michaeljudd57@gmail.com Spent 2 1/2 weeks in Georgia.  Was not impressed with Loud Mine. We dredged for 3 days and then ran 75 buckets of material hauled from across the creek and combined only got about 30 colors. Trying to get any info from caretaker was like pulling teeth. Was told we could set up the hi-banker anywhere, only to be told after an hour running could not be set up where we were, but could set up 15 feet from there. The material from the pile was a joke, all topsoil.  We spent the next week a...

2 Replies and 9069 Views Slo-Able 1  9069  2 Started by  MICHAEL BUCKMAN I just recently went to scout the one and only claim in San Luis Obisbo county. Its calle 'Slo-Able 1.' I wanted to see how camping would be and if there was running water on the claim this time of year and to take a couple of test pans to see if there might be some decent gold to be found. I made it to the Navajo Flat campground as it speaks about in the book, but then things got strange. The directions in the book said that the claim was 1/2 mile farther, but it wasn't clear if it was talki...

0 Replies and 7172 Views Flood Layers  7172  0 Started by  eddy2u2@yahoo.com I found this on a trip to Lake Mohave, AZ and thought it was interesting to see the flood layers. It was about 6-7 feet high and it had exposed bedrock in the bottom of the channel. I also got the metal detecting bug on this trip after using a Minelab Eureka, so I'm already looking to purchase one.

0 Replies and 6724 Views First time out with MXT  6724  0 Started by  waugh1198@gmail.com We bought a MXT detector back in 2009, and I had maybe an hour on it in prospecting mode in eastern Oregon.  Had not been used since.  Dug it out last summer and got it cleaned up (batteries were still in it).  Joined a local MD club last week and they had a hunt yesterday.  Got some tips on setup from the club pres., and away I went.  He checked on me after awhile and after about 3 hours I had to call it quits.  Found two reproduction buttons from the civil war re-...

12 Replies and 13856 Views Round Rock TX Chapter group visits the AZ desert  13856  12 Started by  ngarza78727@yahoo.com I put together a group trip for our local GPAA chapter with a local gold guide to prospect and detect some claims around the Stanton/Rich Hill area of Arizona. A dozen of us from Texas caravanned to the town of Wickenburg where we stayed at the Best Western as well as other local hotels or campgrounds for a week of detecting/prospecting in the area of Rich Hill. We were armed with metal detectors aplenty as well as a few Gold Cubes and other mini-highbanker recirculators. The majority of folks b...

1 Replies and 9030 Views Quartzville, Oregon  9030  1 Started by  waugh1198@gmail.com On the 13 of Sept. we had an impromptu outing on fairly short notice (sent it out on Tuesday and it was on Sunday.  Had 14 people show up and poked around on the creek bottom that is usually under about 70 feet of water and has not seen the light of day for probably close to 50 years.  Figured it would be pretty good with old material that has not been worked over for so long, even though nothing new would have gotten that far down in the normal slack water of the lake.  Everyone ...
