Grand new to gold, any info welcome! Arizona 3765 3
Started by Tammybreyer@aol.com
Im north of Scottsdale and have been into Lapidary for some time, Cab King setup for grinding and polishing cabs; love to go hiking and look for new rocks. I read something about metal detecting, and did my research, ending up with a Minelab GTX 4500. Im still learning how to use it by having a 'garden' at home that I seed with stuff so i can figure out the machine. I bought Garrett pans and have been playing around with paydirt to hone my skills. Now I feel I am ready to go exploring.....then I...

My Trip the the Arizona Gold Basin (Part 3) Bahde Claims 9518 7
Started by dixiedesertdigger@gmail.com
So as promised, in this thread I wanted to share some specific lessons learned, observations, tips and suggestions for anyone who plans on visiting the Gold Basin Arizona. Before you read this Part 3, please read Parts 1 and 2 as I won't cover anything that I already covered except to perhaps elaborate on a couple things I may have already 'briefly' mentioned. For anyone who doesn't already know, I am no expert, I am actually a Greenhorn, a rookie when it comes to Gold Prospecti...

New Gold Bug by Fisher Question 6198 4
Started by yanick45@yahoo.com
I spend each spring/summer in the Black Hills of South Dakota panning and sluicing for gold. I'm getting older (I'll be 72 this year) and the buckets of classified material that I run through the sluice are getting too heavy for me so I'd like to take up metal detecting for coins, and metal detecting for GOLD. Last year as I was walking down a trail to my camper I picked up a square nail from the side of it. Laying under the nail was an 1876 seated liberty dime! It made m...

ARE YOU SUPERSTIOUS? 5096 2

Today I am making my award winning chili but tomorrow is a different thing. It will be my famous jumbalya and it will be loaded with black eye peas for good luck. Besides that I carry a little black rock in my pocket from the black diamond mine in NV. even though it is not a diamond. I don't believe in the broken mirror because that one would have gotten me a long time ago because my son owns the largest metal recycling yard in NE ca. and we have crushed 20,000 cars with most having t...

About 20 years ago, a coworker and I decided to play our hand at prospecting. I had the jeep and he had fabrication skills. I don't recall drywashers being an option back then, but he fabbed a sluice box setup that we would hall out to blm land and run material. We had no idea what we where doing, but had a good time getting out. Although we found some flakes, gold was dirt cheap back then and we quickly lost interest. I was also alot younger, with two young daughte...

THE QUEST FOR QUARTZ AND OTHER DANGEROUS ROCKS: 3370 2
Started by debatom@msn.com
The last couple winters we have chased quartz from the rye patch clear up into north west NV. On the geology maps I located a spot at 7000 ft. where there was supposed to be an old alluvia area and sure enough there it was, a sandy lake bottom with shore line marks and all. The area is not really big and here it is in the middle of volcanic rock outcrops to boot and a dry wash running in and out of the basin so off my beautiful bride went and soon coming up with a lone p...

Last thanksgiving I may have tried to recycle to many aluminum cans, you know doing your part for the planet and I got playing on ebay on this mining claim and waited till the last 10 seconds and placed a bid and won it by 10 cents. It was surprisingly cheap and with a pair of gators, 410 snake charmer it made a great xmas present for my beautiful bride. So in Feb. off we go to Yavapai co. in the bumblebee area and actually it is a nice claim, lode but has the best of both worlds bec...

SOMETHING DISTURBING IS HAPENING OUT THERE: 5540 3

This time of year is when I hit the books and study history and geology and if there is any open ground in the place of interest I have in mind but this year seems to be different in that I am seeing vast acreage gobbled up by large mining company's and I don't mean pretend miners selling claims on ebay. These are large miners mostly from Canada and they are claiming section after section amounting to thousands of acres in great proven areas of the past and present and are even gobbling ...
