Metal Detecting 101 / Renegade Treasure Hunts

The Gold Prospectors Association of America and the Lost Dutchman’s Mining Association are excited to announce a series of metal detecting training sessions along with renegade treasure hunts at our Stanton camp in Arizona, our Oconee camp in South Carolina, and at our Duisenburg camp in Southern California.

With four metal detecting trainings and treasure hunting events planned during 2017, detectorists all across the country will have an opportunity to hone their skills and dial in their machines. Led by metal detecting expert Kevin Hoagland, participants will leave these events with the confidence they need to get out in the field and find gold & treasure of all sizes and at all depths.

These training sessions are for participants of all skill levels and will cover beginning to advanced technique for all brands of detectors. Participants will begin in a classroom setting where expert detectorist Kevin Hoagland will explain the fundamentals of metal detecting including topics such as: ground balance, frequency, tone, threshold, etc., as well as brand-specific functionality. This classroom setting will be immediately followed up with an in-the-field training where participants will be able to put their newly learned skills to the test. Dates for the Metal Detecting 101 Training Sessions are as follows:

Stanton Arizona - April 15th, 2017

Oconee South Carolina - June 17th, 2017

Duisenburg California - September 2nd, 2017

Stanton Arizona - November 6th, 2017

Renegade Treasure Hunts - Limited to 100 participants

These seeded treasure hunts will give participants an opportunity at uncovering thousands of dollars in prizes. The hunts are open to detectorists of all ages at any skill level. All participants will be hunting at the same time in an open setting so headphones are highly recommended! We recommend attending the Metal Detecting 101 Trainings Session prior to the hunt to give participants an edge on proper detecting technique. These hunts are a lot of fun and are limited to 100 participants (LDMA and GPAA Members). Non LDMA members are welcome to camp at the property, standard camping fees apply. Dates for the Renegade Treasure Hunts are as follows:

Stanton Arizona - April 16th, 2017

Oconee South Carolina - June 18th, 2017

Duisenburg California - September 3rd, 2017

Stanton Arizona - November 7th, 2017
