don't worry about looking for claim markers- i see a lot of new folks doing that. I did that too 20 years ago. All I did was spend my day looking for posts and markers and never feeling confident enough to just dig.

let me tell you how to do it.

go to the claim guide on line - copy the GPS numbers (copy and paste each one separately) and paste them into Google Maps. when it locates the spot mark it as a SAVED OR LABLED OR FAVORITE LOCATION

i save mine as Favorite locations that way if I have my Cell Phone on in my car with the Google maps ap open and i am just driving or walking with boots on the ground, i can see the boundaries of the claim weather a claim marker exists or not. you can see yourself on your cell phone by an Icon and it will move when you move so you can always see you are within the boundaries of the claim. spend the time looking for gold not the posts or markers.

log in your favorite claim GPS numbers in to MAPS and you will never have to worry again if you are in the right spot.

I also study the maps on my computer and use the satellite image to show me the topography and helps me find a good place to start digging even before I arrive at the claim.

That would be a nice way to do it if the online guide showed the GPS corners, which it doesn't, it only shows the center of the claim which is useless for telling where the boundaries are. There are very few signs on the ground for claim markers, often even if they are there they are at the corners, not where you enter the claim. Neighboring claims will sometimes have signs saying NOT A GPAA CLAIM to alert you.

You have to join for an annual membership and get the actual printed guide in order to get the GPS coordinates. Then check online to see if that claim is still an active claim for GPAA. Then enter them in your GPS program of choice, I like OnXMaps.

If you are a member you can try joining the unofficial GPAA Facebook group and seeing if someone can message you the coordinates if you don't have the printed guide. GPAA will not post coordinates in the forum.
