I live in central Illinois and was thinking of making the trip to Ohio to a lease property. The mining guide Land Status says: Private & This is a lease property. There are no gps coordinates only directions. Also no point of contact here. Do I still need permission to prospect on this claim? Do I need any permits other than my membership card to start finding yellow there? Can I just drive and prospect?

This is property the GPAA leases. Any active member can prospect on these properties. As with any GPAA claim (or any other claim), it is your up to you to check on regulations and if any permits are required for prospecting such as hi-banking, dredging or whatever equipment you plan to run. Do a search of mining laws or permits required in that state.

You also might want to check with one of Ohio GPAA Chapters ,(there are 3), they can help you with questions about the local areas and claims. You can look them up in the chapters directory in the community section.
