Hello! I received some gold prospecting equipment this Christmas after a few years of being interested in going out and going prospecting. My initial plan was to get a sluce, just like the countless YouTube videos Iv watched. What I got this Christmas was a blue bowl, a standard gold cube and a mini trommel attachment. I’m trying to figure out a few things.
1) Is the mini trommel now useless unless I want to take buckets of un classified dirt and run it through the trommel at home?
2) where does the gold cube fall into the list of approved or non approved non motorized equipment. Do I just classify at the location and run it that way? What are the rules for recirculating water and the eventual discharge of said water. Do I even need to recirculate water or can I throw my pump in the steam directly?
I’m in Tacoma but I plan on going to both streams where legal and the coast when I’m able. Any help would be appreciated!

Ryan -
Go to the nearest state fish and game office and get a copy of the latest gold and fish booklet, free of charge. Most will have a copy or two ready to go. IIRC, is downloadable, but runs around 40 pages.
It lays out boundaries, in and out of water work windows, and requirements on water usage.
I've seen people using a cube at Cape disappointment, but never looked into specifics. Suspect that electric pumps are classified as notorized, same as Oregon.

I was visiting family in the Tacoma area a few years back. Had a gold pan. We went somewhere up near Buckley and saw this nice looking stream but the folks said it was a salmon stream and probably off limits. I didn’t get to pan at all that trip.

Thank you for the reply. Iv studied the phamlet the best I can but Im still not entirly where Im able to use my gold cube and what permits I need to use the gold cube and trommel.

Contact Steve Lewin, the state director, or the chapter closest to you. They can fill you in on where and when you can use equipment.
Not only that, a lot of knowledge to be had for the asking, no matter of you're a seasoned prospector or someone fresh to it. Most will be more than happy to help out. Strongly suggest at least going to a couple of meetings and get your feet wet, so to
speak.

Dont know if feasible or possible, marry the tromel and cube together
Depending on sizes, seems like a perfect match
recirculating water could be an issue if not properly done

Sounded like he recieved the Cube and it's trommel as a unit.
Probably still going to have to classify down to maybe 1/2", and keep as much silt, mud, and dirt out as possible, to maximize cleaner water.
Most will run two tubs, tied end to end with PVC pipe. Intake at far end of one tub, and the cube discharge in the other. Gives dirt and silt time to settle out.

Correct the trommell is an attachment you can use for the gold cube.
