I am trying to find out if I am setting up the sluice right.  I have never really sat with someone and been shown how to properly set up the sluice.

Here is the video I made of it running this afternoon:  http://youtu.be/ViFbMOrtw9o

Tim, in 30 seconds of video it is hard for me to say. What we uses to due in the past for setting up sluice boxes in streams and creeks was to throw in a few small pieces of lead. If the lead went no farther than the second riffle, we would then throw in a handful of 1/2 inch rocks. As long as the rocks made their way through the box and the lead stayed in place, we figured we were good to go.

On my recirculating system the pitch or fall is set at 1/4 inch per foot and the pump motor is throttled so the rocks walk, not run out of the box.     Ron

Thank you Ron. I never thought of the lead shot to test it. Or the rocks. Plenty of 1/2 rock to work with since I classify it all to 1/8th before I run it through. Good advice. I looked like ti was loading up to much on me this afternoon. I only ran about 4 scoops to test it and get some video.

Whoops brain fart, " Freudian Slip " the pitch on my recirculating wash plant is one inch per foot. The material I like running is 1/4 inch minus. Sorry for the misinformation in the first reply regarding the pitch / fall.    Ron
