Hello Folks-I'm curious-I asked this of the HQ members, but no reply. That's ok, they're busy--but I'd like to know.

What is the difference in the GMAA and the LDMA? I see events that are attended by both groups. The LD costs $4800 and the GMAA costs $155 for 3 years. I don't understand the relationship. Are the claims the same? What's the deal. Should I join the LDMA? Are the claims in the Mining Guide the same for both groups? Which is better?

    Thanks in advance.

I have no idea what the GMAA is.

The GPAA (Gold Prospectors Association of America) has the claims in the Mining Guide which I believe all need to be renewed each year.

I understand the LDMA actually owns the land their claims are on.

All claims are governed by local county and state laws, even California which has illegally
    ignored Federal Mining Laws.

I think both groups were started by Massie.

The LDMA is over priced, but they do make it somewhat painless to join by the low automatic monthly payments available(which includes the GPAA).

Since I seem to have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, and there's definitely plenty in these groups, I'll hang around for a while. Hopefully I'll gain some wisdom as well, eventually.

    Good luck

    Hello,
Think of the GPAA as a starter kit, those that are curious or just enjoy the camaraderie of other gold prospectors. Those that are bitten a little harder by the gold bug can join the LMDA. When you join the GPAA you are given a plethora of info and tools but a lifetime membership in the LMDA also includes a lifetime membership into GPAA (see, starter kit) but the LMDA actually have camps set-up on good gold bearing areas which members can camp on for I believe 6 mo at a time. Yes GPAA is more affordable but that just whets the appetite to join the LMDA.

    Happy Hunting
