I was on the way out of my claim and the area I was snake bitten earlier this year my mining partner walking a few feet behind me yelled Rattlesnake, and he almost stepped on it because it was crossing the road and I had just walked over it. Having been bitten earlier this year I bought snake gators to prevent it from happening again. Sure enough we get to the truck and there were two sets of puncture marks in my Right gator and I never heard or saw it until he pointed it out. Sure enough a small rattlesnake, too small to rattle loud enough for you to hear it, and the last time I only  heard a hiss.

Get some light weight gators if you are in snake country, there are two dens on the route to one of my claims. I call it the "Highway to Hell, and then to Hell and Back again".

Everyone has their own opinion...but I would eliminate that right quick. Yeah so what, they keep the rodent population down...(thats good for in town and in suburban areas) but if I am working in an area that has a snake problem.... I would eliminate that if possible.

I'm a newbie and snakebite is one of the things I've been concerned about when I'm out west. Is there any possibility that snakes can hit above the tops of gaiters, or is that not something to worry about?

Mary. 99% of snake bites on adults are between the ankle and the knee. A good set of Gaters should take care of it unless you are on your knees clearing out a crevice etc. in that case, look before you reach.

BC - After what you went through with the first one, sure happy you didn't get poked again.

Was me, I'd rename those "Rattlesnake Heaven 1 & 2" Might help with the claim jumpers too.
