Has anyone done any sluicing or panning in the Happy camp area GPAA claims. Live in Oregon but would like to plan a trip down there is it is worth it. Thanks in advance.

Hello Jack I am interested in the same area. I live in Red Bluff CA. We are planning a trip to the east coast but if we are still here when you come to CA maybe we can get together. I have a sluice and panning equipment and a couple of metal detectors. My wife and I are always ready for an adventure...

Thanks for the reply David. mostly dredging up here in Oregon but also find mostly small flakes. Would really like to find a place with the possibility of a small nugget or two. I have sluices, 2 dredges High banker and soon a Gold Cube Trummel.

I have always wanted to do some dredging. Not happening in CA though. Where in Oregon are you located? I lived in Medford for awhile and did a little bit of sluicing around the Applegate area. That was before the dam...

Jack, just a thought.....might look into BMOA if not a member there.  Based in C.G.  No scheduled meeting until Sept., but can contact through their web page.

This is just a suggestion, a person can find some gold almost everywhere in California and this is true of most states. If a person is not finding any gold then they need to brush up on how to find fine gold and varied techniques for finding fine gold. If you are finding fine gold but deem that there is not enough that is very valid points to move from one place to another or look for better digs. Some of the age old ways to find gold to look at are: best spot to look for gold,  best method for spot you are in, best method to use, classification extreme for under 30 mesh, best method for meshes as fine size changes.

I have been a few places where I was skunked did a lot of research and in each case found a reason, none of which was that it was not there except if you happen to get into a reclaimed pit mine area. To be fair I have found areas as I am sure most have that I deemed the location did not have enough gold for me to continue going to.

Hi there, I was browsing posts looking for folks looking for spots to go prospect. I'm new but have been really soaking up all the information I can on the reference side of things. I have almost zero experience working a claim. I camp a lot and thought that combining the two would be good for the soul and I'd stop wasting money on fishing equipment. That said I have a 40 acre claim south of Happy Camp with a decent sized gravel bar with good river access. Only problem is i don't have a boat yet and the bar is opposite of the highway. So if anyone would like to give it a go or is willing to help with a boat I'd like to talk to you. I have a Keene Mini Max and all my own equipment otherwise. With last winters rainfall I do believe some good opportunity is there.

    Thanks

I have a 15' Boston Whaler sport, never had it in the river but it has a really shallow draft and its unsinkable. What kind of water do you need to cross? I live couple hours from there. I have some good equipment and experience in the area.

    Hi ,

Please message me or email me at Rmdig79@Gmail.com. I'd like to discuss any possibilities. I've been to the claim once briefly on my way home from another trip but wasn't able to do any prospecting. So, I'm hoping to get up there at least this winter once to get a better layout of the claim and do a couple of more serious outings late winter early spring. It's big water most of the year but can fluctuate quite a bit during winter. I can send a few pictures if you send me your email.
