I was curious to see if anyone has prospected around their backyard and actually have found gold.  I'm not talking about within a few miles driving distance but actually right behind your house.  I keep thinking to myself theirs gold in that there backyard.

The mobile home park I'm in was putting in a new septic system a few years ago.  When they dug it was through gravel up to to fist sized round river rock.  It is on an old river channel, and the river is a good half mile away now. Panned some of it just for kicks, and got a couple of colors from every spot I sampled.  Not worth the time and effort though as it was all from 4-8 feet down.   This is the river that comes down from the Quartzville Group in the guide, but no new stuff since the late 60's because of two dams put in.

That's where I just got all the black sands that I run over my table from flood waters that washed down quartz and all sorts of material down from the mountains into Dry Slough that is on my grandsons property.

I did some in my back yard some time back .I was putting in a leach line and ran some of the dirt and I did find some gold.I had about 2yards of dirt left so I ran it .Got some good gold but not enough to make worth digging up my yard.

If I can call my "back yard" as 80 acres in the Mother Lode (Murphys, CA), Then YES. But it was only a few flakes. Still looking for more. Also have an old stagecoach route with stop and farrier shop, two known "rush" period dwelling sites (with animal corral) and trash dump. LOTS of work to do!  TTC

My back yard is horrible. Not so much as a flake.

Yes, my backyard is filled with river gravel and my partner just built a new rock crusher. We grabbed a handful of the gravel and then turned it to powder in the crusher and yes, there was gold in it, but not enough to pay for me digging up the backyard and having to replace the rocks.

Now there are areas in Breckenridge and Telluride Colorado that the homes were built on 100yr old tailing mounds and I have been told they can find more fine and flake gold in their backyard then they can in the river, I am not sure how much I believe them but can see it being possible.
