So I notice under the Community Section there are only 5 "Active GPAA Member Chapters listed. But I recall when I purchased my GPAA Membership there were a ton listed, I think there are some (alot more than 5) also listed in the Miner's Guide. Frankly, I think I recall choosing to have some portion of my membership fees to be allocated to a chapter near me that appeared on the list (I vegely recall) but have never heard from any chapter since. After attempting to gain knowledge here, on a claim that I plan on visiting this month, I have come to realize that said knowledge gained is very little from here. So someone suggested I contact a chapter near the claim who perhaps has better info. Well, I have never gotten any replies from my attempts using the chapter info listed in the Miner's Guide... So I am wondering does the fact only 5 chapters listed as "active" here mean the rest are "inactive" or no longer in existence? I am looking for a chapter that has a ton of experience and knowledge on the Gold Basin Arizona area. Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to GPAA.

Wish I had done more research before joining.

If you're fortunate enough to be in an area where there is an 'active' chapter I'm sure you will be happy with GPAA.

From what I'm seeing on the internet some of the chapters are very active in the community and have outings in the area's close to them. Unfortunately, I'm not in one of those areas.

More research on available chapters near you needs to be done before joining so if you do join you can take full advantage of what the GPAA has to offer.

    Vince,
IF I remember correctly, there are a couple of prospecting clubs in North Idaho. They are not affiliated with the GPAA to my knowledge. ONe is in the Coeur d'Alene area and the other meets in Lucille. YOu can Google Northwest Gold Prospectors Association for the one in Cda. As I just googled it, others came up, so go for it. DUes seem reasonable This club has 11 claims and around 400 members.

Vince, I am having trouble deciding whether to sign up again with the GPAA or join an independent club. The claims near me in southeastern Washington are few and far away.

Vince, Correction on the post about Lucille. That's Lenore instead. Memory is going in old age.

    Wayne,

I'm in the same boat, I'm in Western WA, and the closest claim (Hard Wages) still seems to far to travel. Never was able to find time for the drive.

I'll stay with the Boeing, club, beeps Inc. and may try to Find a second local club with closer claims. Will look At Western Prospectors Minning Assocation WPMA in Mount Vernon WA.

    Jeff,
Travel in your area is probably traffic/time based. Here, the closest GPAA claims are at least 3 hours away, which usually for me means at least one overnight stay.

Found out that locally, I think I can dig on the Clearwater River banks above Lewiston, Idaho where others are doing so. Gravels above the "ordinary high water mark" have fine gold 1/8 inch & below. But I haven't found it yet. Got 5 buckets of 1/2 inch minus to process. Am trying to put together a home built highbanker/grizzly with Gold Hog mats. WIll see how it goes.

Anybody have a good source for gasoline pumps around 2000 gallons per hour? I found some on Northern tool but am not sure about the make of the engine.

    Later,
    Wayne

    HI Shane

For your chapter needs you can participate at more than one chapter. I would suggest the closest one to where you are at. Many people will have a chapter in the summer and stay somewhere else in the winter so they participate in a chapter in the area they are next to in the winter. GPAA allows a member to give points to the chapter of their choice when they join or renew. This is in most cases the chapter that they frequent and that they consider the one that enhances their membership use. When in a new area use the latest Pick and Shovel, Magazine or use the website for chapter information so you get the most up to date information.

I may not be able to join any. I am 2 hours away from Vegas which is the closest one and given the "participation" requirements that I would need to make physical appearances for at Chapter meetings, it just may not be possible... The Gold Basin Arizona is around 90 minutes from Vegas (3 hours from me) and I was thinking that Chapter would have the most knowledge and experience on the nearest Gold bearing area to me. I am just going to have to concede that I am on my own and need to figure things out when I get there LOL

    Hi Shane

You can participate with a chapter anytime with the unusual exception where they are going to a personal club claim activity if if they have there own private claims outside of the GPAA claims guide. You just need to coordinate with them to go to regular outing or a meeting if you want when you can accomplish that.

I don't feel you need to join a chapter to get information. I contacted the Las Vegas chapter for info on gold basin awhile back and they were more than happy to answer my question. I'm not affiliated with their club. They are and I'm sure other clubs in the GPAA would do the same thing. And click on full chapter directory there is a whole bunch of chapters.

Thank you everyone. I am just wishing I could find someone who knew our Gold Basin Claims well. I will be staying there for 4 days and 3 nights and want to make the most of my time. I am guessing based on the Topography and Geology that the Hoppy is going to be my best bet. I am assuming all of our claims have been pretty well worked over and considered hunted out. But I am hoping to get lucky and find a few nuggets that thousands before me missed LOL. A tall order for a guy with very limited knowledge and no experience. But I have been studying my Geology, Rocks and Gold Prospecting Tips and Tricks pretty hard for a while now. I have the machines (Metal Detectors), gear and equipment to locate and extract any target that I may encounter. I will be sure to let everyone know how I do and of course I will recording and uploading my entire adventure to my YouTube Channel. Thank you for all of your efforts and input.

    Shane,

All of us were greenhorns at one point
You can become the Gold Basin expert
I personally like working "hammered claims" , its a challenge.
And while I work wetted material, "they" didn't get it all wet of dry
Extra work yes, but very gratifying when you do find something

    One tip,
try to get away from easy area's.
Kinda like fishing, if you drive up, get outa your truck and the creek, river or lake is right there, you will likely not catch anything

As for posting your trip, please do
But keep some secrets to yourself, don't give it all away

There you go, how true it is....its always easy to just stay where everyone else has been, just like Rye Patch. Everyone goes to the easy spots, get out and get into the hills.

    Morn'n Shane,

If you're around South of Prescott, Lynx Creek has some nice gold. Panning and hand sluice is all you can do most areas though but I have found some pickers.  Also, Crown King is a very nice area for camping, atv's and bottle hunting. Lots of old cabin sites and old mines in those hills.  Cold beer and good food in town.

    Thanks Wayne,

Camped at Eagle City Park for a few days. Nice area and found a lil color. Met Bob of Northwest Prospectors.  Thinking of joining that group as they are also active on the Clearwater.

Tried the GPAA claim on Lolo Creek last summer. Not much luck but am going to hit it a little harder next summer. Beautiful area. Lolo Creek camp ground is really nice. Well kept up and right at Eldorado and Lolo Creeks.

Did a drive-by at the GPAA claim N.E. of Pierce, Id. at the junction of road 250 and French Mountain Rd.  Looked very promising. Going to hit it next summer also.  Seen what looked like dredging holes along the edge of the creek next to some bedrock.  Some nice camping spots too. Pretty popular area for camping all along road 250.

Found a lil color on the North Fork of the Palouse River along road 767.  Need a Potlatch Corp. permit in most of that area.

    Morn'n Jeff,

Yep. Lots of very fine gold along the river there.  Just East of Myrtle, almost across the river from Pine Creek is a long pull-out on the highway. Surprisingly, there is some nice gold along there. You'll see lots of holes from other diggers.  See folks at Gibbs Eddy now and then classifying into buckets.

If ya got the time, a few days or a week up in Elk City and Dixie can be a good time. And productive. If you're not into camping the Silver Spur Outfitters and Lodge in Dixie is a nice lodge and they serve up some pretty good grub.
