Hey all. I also posted this in the business section since I wasn't sure where to post in the first place.  So my nephew's cub scout pack is going to be going on an outing next spring. (We're in Alaska, so the mining season is overwith now.) And We're looking for some donations for our outing. Basically I'm taking them out to a claim that was last used in 1919 that I have been to several times. (Never mined, but hiked) I have done days of researching and finally found the owners of the claim. They gladly gave me permission to take the den out there to teach them how to mine. This winter, we will be practicing panning with bags of pay dirt. This will be used for teaching them how to mine along with orienteering (I'm making them find the mine with topo maps), fundraising (They're fundraising to get some sluice boxes and other equipment), etc. Anyone know of anyone or a business or anywhere that would be willing to make some donations of equipment or anything? Thank you so much!

Hey guys! Lots of updates here! First off, I have spoken with the local council. They looooove what I'm doing. It turned from mostly my nephew's den to basically council wide. Boy Scouts and cub scouts. I have several sponsors as well. A local brewery is going to donate a dollar for every growler or sofa, order of pretzels and peanut butter sammies bought at their restaurant in December. They're going to blow up their social media with it as well. Also, our biggest news station here (KTUU) is sending us a nice check. Not sure how much yet, it hasn't arrived, but they have also expressed interest in filming us for a nice segment. the boys have done a little fundraising so far, but they're still looking for pans and classifiers and little tools and such. They asked me to post (for the second time on some forums) looking to see if anyone has spare equipment. I think some of the parents are putting money in for a trailer for all the gear, since it'll be used all over Alaska. The response is fantastic so far! And all the underprivileged kids will al have their own gear to use and some to keep! I'm going to do a backpack fundraiser so all the boys will all have a backpack for their gear. Let me know if anyone is willing to send any tools, pans, anything else. I told the boys that I'd pay for shipping if anyone wanted to donate. Thanks so much for reading!

Boy Scout Troop 230 from Eagle River Lions Den went prospecting in Hope 2 summers ago.  active mine that one of the scoutmasters knew.  they put us on an good money hole with a highbanker and there was room for 2 sluices.  we worked enough in a day to get every kid a small gold pan (1.5 inch in diameter) with some flakes glued to the bottom.  it was really fun.  best part was we were able to drive right to the spot.

if you figure out the dates for your trip i may be able to assist or find other scout leaders/boy scouts who may want to help out.

That would be cool! We could get the older boys to assist the younger cubs! It's still a work in progress at the moment!
