My wife and I would like to go and search for Oregon Sun Stone? any body have any tips on looking for the Sun Stones. I think we will try to head that way after we leave the Burnt River Dig, and a little cat fishing on the Snake River in Huntington Oregon. I will have to call and let the Double Eagle Mine at Plush Oregon know that will be down there around the first of June,2014 Thanks for any info any body can give me on looking for the stones. Thanks Rick & Terri Denton

Rick-  IIRC there are a couple of private pay to dig sites down there out of Plush.  Also a big public area that is free.  Contact the Lakeview BLM office for a brochure on the public area and directions.  I have not been down there since the early 70's, but most were in the clear yellow stones, thumb size, to the joint.  Look around the base of sagebrush, but keep a harp eye out for snakes.  I once found one curled up in the greenery of a piece of sage brush a foot off the ground.   I always used a rock hammer to pull them out from under the sage and other growth. You will occasionally find one with a red or green hue to it, those are the real finds and the most value for the buck.

The pay sites will probably be the best bet if you are time limited, and they will have everything.  The area is out of civilization aways, so be sure the rig is in good shape and have plenty of fluids for the people and pets.

Thanks for the input on the Oregon Sun Stones. I think we will have a lot of fun. Are you going to the Burnt River dig here in a couple weeks? My wife and I will be there for the outing the down to Plush after words. Maybe see you there if your going. Thanks again Rick & Terri Denton.

No, won't be at Burnt River.  Not LDMA.  Have stopped and talked to the caretakers a few years ago when we hit the GPAA claims up there.  Have fun and watch out for the hot tails, still early but they are going to be out come first part of June

If you would like to come to the Burnt River outing you can come as my guess if you would like to, and have the time to go. Just let me know and I call LDMA to find out how to sponsor you for the dig. Thanks Rick.

Thank you for the offer, but time, distance, and money for me is not working at this time.  'preciate it though.
