So what are the rules on having a guest with you on a claim?

You may have up to four (4) guests total.  No matter what equipment you are using, they are limited to panning only. Hope that answers the question, and that is unless the policy has changed in the past year or so.

So if I am detecting they can not, well I wish I had read that little piece of information somewhere before I spent my money on joining the club.

FYI your spouse and children/grandchildren are not guests, they are family.

Looks like I'm back to looking for public lands not associated with a club again, The friend I was planning on taking with me is like my brother. But he has no experience prospecting and wanted to try detecting as well as the other activities before diving into a membership. Kind of difficult to encourage someone to pay before being able to try the methods out to see if they would like to get into it more seriously. kind of like walking around looking at a new car and saying I'll take it, before ever getting in and test driving it.

Bob-  Call the office and check with Walt or someone else down there........they might grant a onetime variance to see if they can pick up a membership.  Won't hurt to ask anyway.
