Classifiers to you take in the field with you and what size stays at home for fine cleanup?

As a noob I only own a 1/4 and a 1/8 mesh so they both go out with me I only sluice and pan for now.

Any particular brands that are good? Any to stay away from?

I have a few---the 1/2 incher is pretty much retired.  I carry a Jobe 1/4 in the field and use it for panning and the Royal short sluice, go down to 100 mesh at home, but don't use them much, but really should start, would make my processing of cons on the porch easier.

The 1/2 is an all plastic Keene, the rest are Jobe, no issues with either

1/4 and 1/8 work well for me in the field....especially when packing in. Just keep an eye on what you toss, if in an area known for larger gold.

I still use my 1/2 inch but only for sluicing with the big A52. I use the 1/8th for everything else and they are all Jobe. I have used Martin Prospecting's interchangeable classifiers, and love them, they sit deeper in the bucket and let you change them out easily. the whole set takes up about as much space as 1 regular classifier and makes it easy to back pack with you.

I use a 1/4 in the field, my wife look more for rocks than for gold. Once we get home the material is dried and then run through a 1/8, this actually lets her find more garnets than anything else. Though she did find her first nugget by accident this year by choosing to keep a screen full of rocks to go through it at home later, had we tossed that one the nugget would have been thrown out as well.

What I need is a classifier that sits down in the bucket and not on top of it. This way we can place pans and classifier in bucket instead of having to carry a bucket in one hand and classifier and pan in the other. One of the members in our club showed me a pan that he cut the sides off of to fit inside of his bucket and it was a great idea, now I just need a classifier to do the same with, or at least one that act like a lid.

Ben, Did you ever try those rectangular pans made by that dredge company up in Idaho. I bought a couple at the last gold show and they seem to work very well and the sit inside a 5 gallon bucket as well. They have extra deep ridges as well.
