Does anyone know which claims are currently closed access, by the BLM in Colorado? I'm interested in knowing about the Idaho Springs claim and if it is still closed.

Contact Walter Eason in the main office.  He should have that information.

    Call BLM Colorado 303-239-3600

I know the lower Delores Claims are both now closed by the BLM, and I wouldn't waste my time down there regardless.

BTW, The Delores is fed by a massive field of Uranium Mining tailings at around Mile Marker 84 and south on Hwy 141. You can take a few Farm Roads to the East and West that will take you on top of the Mesa. If you go West they will take you to Utah on the La Sal Range, if you go East you will find you are on top of the Escelante, and up here I did find a few Dry Wash Claims.

As for the Delores River forget it. The only source of gold is at Mile Marker 89 where the upper alluvial placer meets the river, and it is privately owned and also closed.

I have not been to the Idaho Springs Claim yet, but from what I have seen the Silverton Claim has the best payout. It's called the Little Georgia in your Guide.

    Todd,

The Pick and Shovel Gazette for Aug.- Sept. said the old girls camp/horse ranch has been leveled and a fence put up. The stream is not fenced and this is part of the claim. I have not tried that claim. Never here much about it. Maybe others know more.

If you go let me know what you find.

    Scott

We went up to the Idaho Springs claim a couple weeks ago and there are homeless people camped all over up there!! It's posted no camping but doesn't seem to stop them! I think we've wasted our money with a lifetime membership, can't seem to get help from anyone and all the claims are being closed!!

    Mike,

Well that's to bad about all the campers. Maybe once the weather turns cold it will chase them out.
