I have the ATX and for the most part I like the detector, but there are a few drawbacks. This detector is very heavy... it doesn't take long before your arm gets tired. I use a sling (not the one provided) and have modified how I swing the detector to take as much weight of my arm as possible. The only other drawback I can say is the coil size, unless you use the smaller monocoil, the main coil is huge... oh, and purchasing additional coils is not cheap.

Besides those points mentioned above, I like my ATX. The fact is can be folded down to a small package is really great for me. I have found gold in a variety of sizes with my detector. Like any other detector, you just have to get use to it. If I could afford a Minelab GPZ 7000 I would, but I like the ATX and the price range was a little easier to swallow.

I recently picked up an ATX and am very happy with it.  I like the ability to fold it down and backpack it into areas for prospecting.  Having both hands available is a plus when you are climbing banks.  I also like the ruggedness of the ATX.  When I hit on a target and lay it down to dig, I am not concerned about sand, gravel or even a little water.

You can't go wrong with the ATX as long as you can deal with the weight of the unit.  Best of luck with your pursuit!
