    Paint Your Wagon!

I was born under a wondering star (Lee Marvin singing is classic).

The idea of mining the area under every saloon in town is genius.

N00bie here, but I just re-watched 'Pale Rider.' (1985,  Clint Eastwood)

Nice setting (shot in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area in central Idaho) and although the dialog mentions a lot of panning, you can see sluices and rocker boxes in the background, and the 'bad guys' are doing some good old-fashioned hydraulic mining with recirculating pumped water, high-pressure nozzles, and a sluice with maybe about 150 yards of riffles. They try to stuff a little enviro-religion into the movie, showing the hoses taking down trees by their roots, but I still felt that must have been glorious back in the day.

Interesting use of the word 'monitor' to mean a somewhat portable steam engine (for nozzle pressure,) similar to the old logging 'steam donkeys' up here in lumber country. (Western Oregon.)

Oh yeah, "Nothing like a good piece of hickory."

Mother Lode with Charlton Heston and Kim Bassinger.

Probably the most under-rated movie on hunting and mining for Gold there is.

Besides the fantastic cinematic scenery, the story line will have you scratching your head!

Mother Lode is for sure the best Gold Mining movie. The movie was filmed in BC,

A hot Kim Bassinger, a golf ball size Gold nugget, dredging, hard rock mining, etc. Starring Chuck Heston, The movie is supposed to be about the Northern BC Cassiar Mtns, Stikine river area, but most of it was filmed closer to Vancouver, and the Fraser river. Not too far from Hope BC where Rambo BBQ'd his wild pork dinner in a Gold Mine. I won't spoil it for ya but, I can say the flying scenes were real. Not faked or rc models.

Treasure of the Sierra Madre would be my next favorite.

Another good Gold movie is 'The Far Country' starring James Stewart. I saw that one the other night. A lot of battles went on for the Gold.

And 'Bend of the river' also starring Jimmy Stewart, it's about discovering Gold and what it does to the price of food for the winter, The settlers and Gold camp miners fight for the grub stakes.

I just downloaded those two from archive.org as their copyrights have expired.

Archive.org watches for when copyrights expire and then posts the public-domain content for free download.

Illegal downloading can bring nasty statutory fines, but if it's on archive.org, you can enjoy it free and share copies with your friends.

I'm going to have to say the one that came out last year called "the 33" it was about gold/ copper miners in Chile that got traped underground for 60 some days before they were able to rescue them. Great movie if you have not seen it.
