If using GPS input 2800 Hayes Mill Road, Notasulga, AL 36866 you must come in from the south side of Hayes Mill Road in Notasulga, the bridge that crossed the creek was removed by the county and GPS has not updated to reflect the bridge is gone. The lease is on the left side of the road at the dead end, there is a yellow barrier across the road, to the left of it is the lease entrance. This is a brand new lease and work needs to be done to clear and extend the road to the western lease property line, parking areas and a campground/ meeting area.

Once you have reached the claim, you can currently access the creek in two locations. Creek Access Point 1 is accessible by 2x4, and some guys have pulled small trailers to the creek access point. Here is an aerial view of the Access Point 1 route. The overall level of difficulty getting to the Creek Access Point 1 is easy in my opinion because you can drive most of it, and then the walk to the creek is short with manageable ramps down to the creek.

Once you have reached the claim, you can currently access the creek in two locations. Creek Access Point 2 is currently only accessible by foot (despite having to select the 2x4 or 4x4 button to make this post). Access Point 2 appears to be an ATV path used by some of the locals, but the path is not currently maintained by the club. Here is an aerial view of the Access Point 2 route.

If it has rained recently and you are wondering what the creek water level is, the USGS has a stream gauge on the Saugahatchee Creek about 18 miles upstream (8 miles as the crow flies) located at Lee County Road 188. Be advised this data may not be representative of conditions at the GPAA lease due to several variables in the watershed and storms, and also note that the creek rises very fast. At any rate, it may be helpful to see what is happening upstream, so here is the link to the USGS stream gauge for Station 02418230. If the internet link ever breaks, just google USGS stream gauge Loachapoka, AL and look for Station ID 02418230. https://waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/02418230/

Alternatively, you could probably call State Director Adam Broach and ask about the current state of the creek since he lives in the area.

Adam Broach’s directions from 5/15/19 are correct, as well as the GPS coordinates for claim ingress and center. Here is a vicinity map from the Town of Notasulga to the AUPROSPECTORS’ GPAA Lease. I have decent cellular and text coverage throughout the claim with Verizon, but data is very slow if trying to look something up on the internet.
