kenny stitesAs you can see i live in Amarillo, TX. I've panned for gold in the San Gabriel Mountains a long time ago, found nothing, but didn't have the right equipment either. When Disneyland in CA.. first opened their gold mine display in 1969 or so I panned a full pan of gold bearing sand,,, and got a 1oz. nugget! My ex-wife still has it. LOL and she wouldn't give it back the last time I talked to her.
Now I'm looking to start doing the hard work of panning for the real stuff again at 73. First trip was to Red River NM. Next trip will be Mesa AZ. Now I'm looking for the RIGHT EQUIPMENT to do it right. Could use some help reading topo maps out there if anyone is interested? I'm a GREENHORN

From one who has never prospected, though is looking at the best way to do so, you have sold me. Simple of use, lightweight, and the amazing ability of finding GOLD. GOOD ARTICLE!
