Has anyone used the Gold Cube in the desert ? If so was it worth it? especially since after just a couple scoops the water is all clouded.

just keep running it .The muddy water does not realy effect it until it gets to heavy .like chocolate milk .And keep the trash out of your pump and keep the tanks cleaned out .

Gold Cube Greenhorn here, just purchased a Gold Cube 4 Stack, 3 tub flange and Trommel. Planing on going to the grayback group claim in NM around the end of march, first part of april for several days. Will put it to the test, keep notes and post the results here. reports on the claim say fine and small flakes

Sounds like a great adventure. Be sure to bring plenty of water.

5 Gallon home depot buckets are the cheapest storage I've found. I'm guessing being NM, you won't have running water, so figure out your recirculating system. I have 1 to 2 gallons of water disappear per 5 gallon bucket I run when I recirculate. It's kind of like taking a full bucket of dry dirt and pouring water in it and that's how much water disappears. I could go through 50 or 60 gallons of water for my recirculating. Among the recirculating systems I;ve tried, a home depot 20 gallon cement mixer with the cube which drains into a 10 gallon cement mixer was probably the best. THe bigger tub catches the tailings and muck.

I'm in San Antonio Tx so it will be a 670 mile [one way] road trip, I'm retired, 72, and plan on taking my time. hoping I can talk one of the local RV places to sell me some "inexpensive" water, I have 12, 5 gal uline water containers and will be using 3 home depot 20 gallon cement mixer tubs as my recirculating system and am hoping the 60 gal of water will last a day before it becomes too thick. The GPS photo shows lots of exposed bedrock. Planning on metal detecting, crevice pick and vacuum part of the first day and then using the cube, Trommel and shovel. Will be my first time at the claim, will probably walk and look for an hour or so. In any case it will be an interesting outing and a learning experience.

You've got a good plan and the water should last at least as long as you want.

Back from NM trip, Love the Gold Cube! The Trommel worked great.
    Lessons learned:
Packing everything about 150 ft to where I set up wasn't fun, "60 gal's of water wasn't easy, The frame for the front wheels on the cart I bought bent from the weight and the wheels froze. The cart was rated at 200 lb and I had 150 in it."

Day 1; I used the trommel and shovel.
Day 2; I used a vacuum on a sand vein, emptied into buckets and carried them to where I set up by my truck " Much Easier"

Going to Blue Bowl the cons over the next week, Saw color without panning, just shaking the con container like a gold pan.

For this claim I think I'm going to use an elect. classifier and grade down to one size larger than the gold I recovered. This will eliminate most of the non-productive sand and rocks while concentrating my efforts on productive soil. "Claim was worked in the 30's with large equip. and they got the big stuff so if I use several screens it should work.
