I went to a few of the claims north of Morristown here near Wickenburg AZ, and I couldn't locate any gpaa claim markers? I was at the right gps coordinants. Is there a certain post, poll, or sign im suppose to look for when looking for the claims? And also I advise if you go to these claims during the summer you bring plenty of water, its a hot one this year!

Many of our claims are owned by members that are allowing members to use their claim so the claims in many cases are not in GPAA name nor do they have consistent corner markers denoting GPAA or LDMA.

Would the reliance on GPS coordinates be the most accurate and best way to navigate to the claims? Are the coordinates in the book verified to be accurate?

I have yet to visit and of them. Thanks

GPS is one of the easiest ways to locate to a close proximity to most locations including claim corners and boundaries. It is important to realize that un-patented mining claims are by regulation not required to be surveyed and that location notice map and other locating instrumentation supplied is only required to be used to find the location of the actual site and not be relied on as the final boundaries. This information is to get a reasonable person close enough to know where the claim is by physical pins, stakes, cairns, signage markers and so on.

GPAA has endeavored to locate GPS coordinates in combination with maps in the guide that are the most up to date system for the purposes of finding claims accurately. Each claim when it is put on a GPAA map has attention paid to its location by use of an official location notice and usually map that is current and on file with the claim record keeping agency. Most claims this is the Bureau of Land Management.

I would like to apply for the position of Claim Marker installer. Of course I will be real slow at it as I will need to try each claim while I am there.

GPAA doesn't put up claim markers. It is up to the claim owner to mark and sign claims in accordance with state and federal regulations. That can vary by state.

Here in Oregon, if a claim follows the legal subdivision of sections, you aren't required to put up corner markers, but it must have a location notice posted. ie. SW 1/4 of the NW 1/4, section 16.

Claim markers can also vary, from the usual yellow metal signs to a piece of plywood or board with the claim name, and usually the mining claim number on it.

Also, signs can disappear, seemingly overnight, if they can be reached from the ground.

Claim names in the guide are listed by the name they are filed and recorded under. You can search that claim name in the state it's in to get the actual exact location, and plot it out for GPS if you want to.
