So I was detecting in a park a couple days ago in downtown Pensacola, Fl. I was glad to be there because this is where music in the park is held on Thursday evenings. I figured this would be prime area for finding coinage and jewelry. Shortly after I started a couple guys come up and tell me this is a historical site and no mding allowed, but, if I go just across the street to the other side of the road on what I thought was the same park, I would be good to go. I said ok, and thanks for the tip. Next day I go to the other side and get at it. In no time at all, I nice dressed business man comes up and tells me the same thing as the other guys, plus, he had already received 2 phone calls and 1 visit about me being out there....so... I am searching for a legal park to search in now. Just thought I'd share. Lol

First off check with the local parks and rec or city hall.  You might just need a local permit or something.  If allowable then tell the naysayers to just go away you already checked and everything is alright.  They may be right and they may not......

I prefer to hunt when the parks are less populated, seems to be a lot less hassle and nosy people, although as stated above I make sure those parks have no restrictions before hand.

You know, what really gets me is people that don't want you to do something merely because they don't like it. I see the same thing with target shooting, but then I have over 3 million backers there. Frank...-

With all of the "stuff" going on in our world today...

Isn't it nice to know that some people have nothing better to do with their lives...

I was playing around metal detecting in my front yard after purchasing a new Whites MX5. Across the road from my house is the public swimming pool and a playround. Anyway, some guys daughter goes "daddy what is that thing" referring to the metal detector and he said "he is searching for people's crap they lost so that he can steal it."

    Seriously?

I would have had to correct him for the sake of his daughter and let her know that most MD'ers that find valuable and sentimental objects try to return them to the original owners. So many High School rings that were supposedly lost forever have been returned to their owners since they are easily traceable. I would also let her know that we are also cleaning up the environment by removing trash such as bottle caps and pull tabs and cans and stuff. If we find some coins in the process all the better!
