I am in Milton, FL. My wife and I would be very interested in joining a new chapter here in the panhandle. I work as an IT contractor so have spare time to help out as needed with start up. I just moved from California and have a friend in East Bay Prospectors GPAA that helped start that club and could probably give us some advice, though I have found the GPAA staff extremely friendly and helpful on any thing I have asked them about.

    All,

Sorry, my access to GPAA has been down for 2 days. 11 people so far sounds great. I have not been up to AGC yet but did go to the Farm Claim last month for the SGMA Club meeting. Nice group, lots of dredging going on. I still have cons to pan out.

So, does everyone already have equipment? Dredge, sluice? I have a gold pan and metal detector. I am making plans to do some sniping as soon as I can get a couple days off work. My boys and a couple nephews are getting fired up also. We are gonna make a weekend of it.

Ronda, I have pans, classifiers and a couple of small sluices. When I was up at the Farm claim people had dredges, Highbankers, big and little sluices. The best find of the day was actually from a boy of about 12 that just had a little shovel, a classifier and a pan. He found a real nice 'picker". I do not think it is the equipment so much as where you work and having fun. But then again I only started last October.

What do they charge for panning there. How hard is it to get down to the water? Is it a long way from where you park at? Just want to know what to expect.

The farm claim in Buchanan is a GPAA claim. No charge to use it for GPAA members and it has crude (no hookups but porta poties available) camping. Real easy to get to the water, right next to the campsite. I would read the rules posted there and in the mining guide. I understand Alabama Gold Mine is easy access to, I do not know the costs there as it is a pay to pan area. like I said I am still panning my concentrates as I ran a sluice all day and also brought back 2 buckets of classified material that I need to run through the sluice. I just moved here so have been very busy unpacking. I am looking forward to starting a local chapter so we can all go together. It is much more fun as a group.

Hey Tim, Glad you got your log-in issues resolved. It was great meeting you at the Buchanan claim.

I happen to be going to the ALA gold camp next weekend 5/3-5/5. If you or anyone wants to meet us there and prospect and hang out. you're welcom to join our camp site.

The rates at AGC are really good, Mining rates are, $5 a day per person to pan or stream sluice all day long. If you have your own highbanker it's either $15 for a 1.5",$20 for a 2"-2.5" or $25 for a 3" (max allowed) full day. Dredgeing is based on nozzle size, $10 an inch per day up to 6" (6" = $60). They have highbankers set up that you can rent for $45 for 4 hrs, piles of material included.

Their camping is reasonable too. They do have cabins for $65 and $75 a night. Camping full hookup is either $25 for a 30 amp or $30 for a 50 amp. Primitive camping is only $5 a person per night, you can camp anywhere on property (over 200 acres), and there are 2 bathhouses with showers.

If you are a GPAA or LDMA you get 20% of of camping and mining. So my 2" highbanker is $18 a day instead of $20, and primitive camping is $4.50 a person. No discount on cabin rentals.

So Tim,Ronda, anyone who wants come on by our camp, you're welcome to join us. 96 white ford explorer older Coleman pop-up. Big guy, Big grey beard. Paul

Hey Ronda, No problem on the info.   Let me know when you might make it up this way, either Buchanan or Ala gold camp, Maybe we can coordinate a get together.

A great place that I use for supplies and stuff is Carolina Prospectors in Statesville NC.   They are one of the sponsors of prizes for the club at Buchanan.

Their prices are usually less than everybody else, and being in NC, shipping is cheaper and service is great.  I usually get an order here in ATL in 3 days or less.

Here's their info,        Bill and Mary Brewer,  Carolina Prospectors  704- 450 -1639     http://www.carolinaprospectors.net

I don't get a discount or anything but if you order from them, please tell them I referred you, thanks.   Paul Straub

Take it easy, and keep in touch, my wife and I love meeting up with new folks for prospecting.         Paul

My name is Joel and I just joined the GPAA. I live in Pensacola and surely would enjoy being part of the panhandle chapter. I work for GE and travel extensively (currently in Arkansas) but I do have the summers off. I plan to spend a week or so up at the Alabama gold camp this summer. You guys sound like a great group of folks. Looking forward to meeting out there sometime.

Hey Joel, Welcome to the GPAA family.     I live just outside Atl, in East Point.      I hope you guys get a chapter formed  down there, it's fun getting together every month.  That would  give me another reason to visit the panhandle, been going to PCB for yrs, also had an uncle stationed at Pensacola yrs ago.        Keep in touch, let me know when you go to Ala GC,  or if you'd like to visit  the Loud Mine up in Cleveland, GA,  (or any LDMA camp, I can take guests.

I just got back from agc a couple of hours ago. It is a 4 hr 20 min. trip one way from my location. Beautiful 2 days and nights. Actual sluicing time was aprox. 5 hours with mini Keene and homemade hopper/grizzly/ 1200gph elec. pump. Ran 175 gal of dirt with .037 grams of gold ( stop laughing ). There were at least 6 dredges / 7 highbankers and a trommel operating. I also dragged a friend along who is new to all of this but i dont know if he will be back.  New piles are out but only on the south end. Creeks are down to an acceptable level.

What exactly are they researching? Heard anything yet?

My boys and I are going up to Oak Mtn St. Park weekend of 16-18 for the Xterra race and to do some mountain biking ourselves. I am taking my pan and metal detector to try my luck there. Haven't heard of anyone finding gold there, but I am sure there is and I plan on finding it...lol. I'll report back when I get back home.

Ok, so I called and spoke with a park ranger at Oak Mountain. ...no gold panning in the park.....period! And as for metal detecting, only at the beach, and only in the morning. ...you also have to stop at the ranger office and let them know you are gonna be md. Well, guess I am gonna have to dig me up some dirt somewhere along the way up there. Will let you know how it turns out....Ronda

Ronda. So hard to understand why they would not let you pan,but its alright to dig holes with a md ? Maybe they are afraid of a gold rush in that area.

So anyone interested in getting together to do a little prospecting and getting to know each other. I am heading up to the Farm Claim in Buchanan GA on Friday until Monday. I know a few people from the SGMA GPAA club that is based there and takes care of the claim will be there so it is a good way to get to know other prospectors and hang out. I am going to camp on site.

Not sure why they won't allow panning. I figured if they allow panning it may lead to bigger equipment and interfere with the bikers and runners out there. I really don't know and he didn't say why, just no panning allowed.

I am interested and live in Milton if you want to try and see if we can get a few others together for this. There have got to be other Panhandle Prospectors out there.

Ok, I am still interested. How about anyone that is interested, contact me and I will see what we need to do. I think somewhere along the way, we lost the original starter of this stream and he was in contact with GPAA. I would love to have some local members that we can car pool together and do some outings. I like the Marion, NC area which I where Lucky Strike and Thermal City are. I here good things about Alabama Gold Camp and the Buchanan GA farm claim are always open to us. For those of us that are LDMA members we can bring guests with us. SO yes, I think we need a minimum of 8 people to start a Chapter but more is always better.

I am also still interested, I am going to call the office tomorrow to get the paperwork sent out. At the last outing at Loud Mountain I talked with Dominick Ricci and he gave me a lot of Info on how to set up a chapter. Once I get the paperwork we will need to set up a meeting place so we can all meet and get the ball rolling and get out there digging and get some gold.

Well Michael I nominate you to be the first president when we get as far as elections. I live in Milton, Where we meet I guess will depend on where everyone is. So depending on where exactly all the members are located. I know Jon that started the original string on this was in Defuniak Springs, and at least one other person that showed interest before was in Pensacola.

Hey guys and gals. Tim sent me a message and dragged me back kicking and screaming ( just kidding but i thought it sounded funny. The kicking and screaming part ) anyways i had a really bad case of " Got to go back to workitis " not my decision. But yes it would be nice to have a chapter closer to home.  The last time i counted there were 12 people fairly interested.

I got the rules and regulations today and I am sitting down sunday to review all 26 pages. From I I gather after looking at it quickly we need 8 people to start have to compile a list of all people with their member number address etc;. We need to come up with a chapter name and place to have our first meeting. We have to give the home office 8 week s notice for said meeting. We are going to need some one a little bit more computer savy than me on this. I will post more after reading everything.

I guess everybody will have an idea for a club name so this is the one I will toss into the ring, Rocks to Riches, get it Rocks=precious stones, Riches=precious metals. Also since it will be awhile before we meet I think I can get a meeting area at the American Legion in Pensacola. We have to keep in mind the 50 mile radius and the area it covers, would like to see some people from the Mobile Area that may be interested.

OK gang, My e-mail is tpleibel@gmail.com I do not think I need your membership number yet. But names, phone numbers and address's as well as e-mail outside of GPAA to enable quick contacts would help for now. We do want to get this rolling so we can have a chapter by March or so and get some outings planned before the weather turns. Those with Highbankers or dredges will be ready to go as soon as their wetsuits will keep them warm.

I e-mailed the 4 addresses I have the packet. I was not able to get the e-mail for the 4 other names Jon gave me here. But I think GPAA headquarters will have them. We will need to pick a central location to meet and a mailing address. I think Jon and Mike for Pres and VP or treasurer. I am more than willing to try one of the appointed positions like web master or even Outings coordinator. Jon if you have those e-mails still, maybe you can get a hold of them and see if they are still interested. Then I would suggest we get together, choose a name, The geographic name will be easy, Norhwest Florida, and fill out the bylaws to submit so we can get the 8 weeks running to a first meeting, maybe we can be official in time to kick off the season next year.

Well I hope everybody had a great thanksgiving, I am just waking up from my after turkey nap, wow that was a long nap. Since there are just a few of us now, maybe we should met someplace for coffee or a drink ,I am going to the American Legion today to find out about getting a regular meeting spot set up. I don't know how much lead-time we will need but I will find out and let you all know. I know we will get this set up before the season starts, just like I know we will find a lot of Gold.

I had a great thanksgiving !  As for the gold, all we need to do is dig it up and put it in our vials. I have not been prospecting or mining since May !

Yea, i had a great turkey day also. I think it is a good idea also to go ahead and meet up even if it is before the official meeting. I just ordered some pay dirt to try and learn how to pan.....lol......i am definitely a newbie here.

I have gotten more gold fom paydirt that i have purchased than from agc !  And it cost me less money ! Just make sure that you pan it at least 3 times, if not 4.

I just posted a picture of the gold I found on the east coast his year. It is in my photos. Rhonda, I sent the GPAA Bylaws to you again. And yes, I think we should get together for coffee somewhere and invite anyone else that might be interested in joining us.

Hello Everyone. I just moved back to Pensacola from California. I have my sluice and box of panning equipment we bought on the Left Coast, and would love to get it back in the water. I see that the communication fell off for a few months, but I am definitely interested in joining your group, and getting my family back out prospecting.

Reach out if you are still here and interested.

    Thanks

Ok, we passed this around a lot. I was just appointed State Director for Florida GPAA. Let's get this back in track. I would like to form several new chapters in Florida. One in Crestview, One near Tallahassee and maybe one more based on Eglin/Hurlburt Air fields. I am looking for names of anyone interested, volunteers to do panning demos, and most of all peop, ethos want to lead these new chapters through their infancy.
