Anybody been to an outing at Loudmine and brought there own dredge ?, or is the dirt provided better than the dredging out there ?

Hey Jim, The majority of the dirt provided is for the common dig. They do put out some community piles for those who want to run their highbankers when they are not working their shift on the common.

When you work these piles you cannot set your highbanker up right next to the piles, you have to be at least 10-15ft away from the piles and use buckets to move it to your location, (the rule for community piles is: you can run 45 buckets a day, 15 buckets at a time. In other words you can pull from the comm. piles 3 times a day 15 buckets at a time.)

As far as how good the piles are, they use the best material for the dig, the rest is just like any other place, it's hit or miss, "the gold is where you find it".

I've been there several times and run 3 days, 45 buckets a day, never got skunked but had mixed results from one visit to the next. Sometimes good, sometimes really good, and a few times not much to be found. It all depends on where they get the piles from.

You can bring your dredge to use when you're not working the dig. I have not dredged there (in the process of building a dredge for next season) so I'm not sure how it compares.

Funny thing I've noticed in our chapter at Buchanan,GA and at Loud Mine and other places, I find some dredgers are tight lipped about how well they do for some reason. (don't want you stealing their spots I guess)

Hope this helps, and have a great time at the Outing. Wish I was able to make it to this one.

Dominic Ricci did a couple of hours of dredging during the June 2015 Loudmine Outing and found some nice gold. I believe there is a picture on the forum. I know people dredge there. I was just up there and a few people were dredging. Finding some gold, and having fun. And Yes Paul, they probably do nto want someone to steal there spot after they spent a day or 2 just getting to the bedrock and pay layer. I have been known to climb into one of their holes ate Buchanan and fill some buckets.

Can you  go to the dirt pile more than 3 times a day  if you did not get 15 buckets each trip?

Jim, I think you would need to check with the caretaker on that. I know that LDMA members take 40 -50 buckets a day sometimes to fill there highbankers. I am not sure what is allowed for visiting GPAA members. I for one encourage you to consider upgrading to LDMA, they offer great deals during the outings and the payments are $40 a month and it comes with a Lifetime GPAA membership. I have been very happy with my membership in the year I have had it. See Dominic at the outing and tell him Tim "Buddha" Leibel said hello.

Hey Jim, Tim might be right, not sure if the rules are different for GPAA members at the dig. I know that during the year, if you are a guest of an LDMA member you can only pan and sluice. But I think it might be different for the common digs.

Here's the number of the caretakers at the Loud Mine, if you want to call ahead to check out the details on what you can or can't do while you are there.

Jim or Barbara Braswell, 706-219-3075, call between 9am and 4pm.

    Hope this helps.

I plan to be on site Thursday mid-day. I will bring two stream sluices, a 2.5" power hibanker (Keene dredge...no floats, mounted on stand) and the other necessities.

Does anyone know if there are any primitive camping spots left? Is there a bath/shower house on site?

Thanks to everyone for being a part of this great hobby!

Yes! When you are done playing in the dirt and water there is a bath house with a shower. there will be plenty of primitive camping spots available.

    See you there!

Thanks to all who made our first outing something that we will cherish the rest of our lives. My wife enjoyed being in the dirt, mud and rain almost as much as I did.

One memorable aspect of meeting all of the great people and staff of GPAA is how helpful everyone was. It is truly gratifying to know that we made a perfect decision in joining LDMA.

Cheers to many, many more outings and meeting more of the great people in our organization.

Well the outing was great, I had a lot of fun.
I only dredged few hours because the water was too cold for my 3mm wetsuit without a hood. I only long armed a few feet with my 4" 3-stage and did find some color.
I found more gold high banking a few hours each day after the common operation was over. As far as the 45 buckets per day limit-----15 will wear out the average person after shoveling dirt for four hours on the common operation...
I joined the LDMA and plan to return in the summer...
