In the day and age of modern GPSs that use STANDARD coordinates the latitude and longitude system went out with the dinosaurs. Does anyone know of a good app to change the outdated longitudinal coordinates to every day Garmin GPS ? The Garmin Montana 610 that I use, uses standard WGS 84 hddd°mm.mmm' not a system that was used at the turn of the century. The use of non standard,outdated coordinates makes me want to not renew my GPAA membership

Ken,
You can change coordinate format if you're in Google Earth. Go to Tools, Options, 3D view tab. There are 5 options there for the Lat/Long format.
I believe my Garmin Etrex also has options for coordinate format.

Who cares what format is used, as long as it gets you to the right spot.
My Garmin Rhino will allow format changes, but gets me there using the dinosaur method.
Good enough for google earth, good enough for me.
I would bet your GPS is relatively new, just like anything else, technology moves forward.

As an engineer I care a great deal about formats. I do not wish to enter everything into Google Earth or another program just to convert it to something all GPS understands. Luckily the FCC has a true converter, however I have to enter it first into the computer, and then into a GPS. What a waste of time.
FYI The MBMG (Montana Bureau of Mines), the MRDS, and every other government site I have been to all use the WGS84 system.
