I have to agree with you John. Every new site will take some "getting used to",

but this site is not laid out to be very user friendly and is hard to navigate.

How can we get ALL the people that were on the old site here so we can get this site growing and get the info that was being shared there here. Can you send a group email to all the members of the old site with this address??

I will say this Forum is not taking off very quick, I am not a complainer whatsoever but I find it hard to believe that it didn't. The other forum was so active, everyday new topics being discussed, pictures posted etc... I even enjoyed looking at what was for sale everyday. WHAT HAS HAPPENED? WHERE DID EVERYONE GO?

    What can we do?
    Sincerely,
    Kevin Gottheiner

That is why i said we need to send out a group email to get this site growing. I have signed up for some of the other sites but they are like this one,not much activity, if this keeps up we will have nowhere to get any new info or see what everyone else is doing. I sure miss the old days, if they closed the old one down because of all the bickering that was going on all they had to do was to login and put an end to it. They seem to have no problem logging here even though they dont post anything of use other then to say there i did it. I dont want to complain either but something needs to be done here...

I have several friends that are GPAA members who won't use the forum because of the use of real names instead of screen names.

As an IT professional. Unless it is an enclosed internal network, like in the GPAA offices only, It is NEVER recommended to use your real names on public forums. Now having said that, I have no problem with it. I would encourage the site administrator here to allow screen names but I have no plans on stopping my use of the forum or encouraging anyone else to either.

This issue has been posted before. There has been no effort to change this. I think a lot of valuable contributors stay away from this site because of this issue. Suggestions to change it seem to fall on deaf ears.

I find it hard to believe that the staff is that busy they dont have time to chat with the members and talk about things to get this going, after all we are paying them to listen to us arent we????

I am not a real fan of this website either... I was blind, sticking up for a club I see so much wrong with... No longer will I come to the defense of of the GPAA or the LDMA... The club is loaded with good people, "The Members."  They are the ones that pay to be in this club and should not be taken advantage of...

    Guys,

Well.............as a long time GPAA member and Gold Adventures web site owner that has my own Forum.... I have to say I am totally baffled, dismayed, confused...disappointed the GPAA has done this to us all...

I am back to a "newbie" status and all my lengthy Trip reports and sharing info, opinions, locations, etc., is exactly WHERE? Lost in space? Gone? Trashed?

So, we all are essentially starting over from Day 1? Why?

Tom, Tom, Tom..... WTFO? Anyone, anyone home at the GPAA these days? Any adults in the room?

I post stuff, check back and few have looked at or even commented. Not at all like the prior Forum, that was hopping, engaged, active. Looks like GPAA.....like the BLM, USFS and state entities have succeeded in taking the proverbial steel ball and have screwed it up beyond use/belief.

I hate to be so negative, BUT how else to describe this sad state of affairs? My Trip Reports don't even seem able to display embedded pictures.

I seriously hope Tom or somebody else in leadership explains this, fixes this......and FAST. Otherwise, a LOT of prior loyal members will sadly leave, avoid, write off the GPAA.

You got that right, Randy. There was nothing wrong with the old forum. It was so much more active. I miss it.

I wonder about the brains behind the process when they decide to change the forum. In this day of web design and IT advances, why does this site have such a primitive feel. And as Randy has stated, where is all the old info at? Why wasn't it migrated over. This seems no different than when I upgraded my phone several weeks ago and all my text messages  could not be transferred either. With the GPAA requiring us to use our whole name and not a screen name is another matter. These web pages could be used to track your individual "gov file" and who knows what else. With all the recent revelations concerning data storage on individuals and profiles, I am wondering now that if by google - ing your name.....your posts will pop up everywhere in the world. By spirit and nature, I believe that many "prospectors" still cherish a right and desire to remain somewhat anonymous for fear of gov intrusion. Just by posting your name here will tell "all" that you are a prospector, and that alone can invite intrusions into your life. No different than a "public gun owner registry" to tell criminals where you live. Does anyone know to what extent the GPAA protects our personal data? I think with this in mind, there will be many people reluctant to use the site, just because of this unknown.

The old forum is a dead horse and no new posting on it.  It is archive and search only from what I understand.

Not just the loss of old forum, but sheesh, I just tried to renew my annual membership... I tried the phone number and was treated to a never ending ad for first, an ambulance chasing law firm, second for a Caddy dealership, third I hung up. Back to the online renewal.. renewal rates seem higher and no guide included with an annual renewal.. all renewals are aimed for multi-year if you want a new guide. Finally said the "heck" with it... I don't often get to use my membership as it is.. so perhaps no loss, although I do enjoy the magazine. It just seems like the Massey family has lost track of where they came from.. now it seems to be primarily about raising as much money as possible in as short a time span as possible... get each member to spend as much as possible as soon as possible. Dang, we shall see.. and the old forum.. miss it.. as to using our names publicly, bad idea, especially without giving each poster an option.

I never had a chance to use the "old" forum. I think anything is a representation of the people that use it. I have noticed that for a movement that is growing so quickly and an organization whose membership is growing so fast, the activity on the forums seems very low. Maybe mass e-mails and including a handout in the membership package on this website and forum would encourage people to try it out. In the mean time I tell everyone I know about it, I embed links in e-mails to friends asking me about my prospecting and I am active here and on several chapter forums. Hopefully I can generate interest, even if it is someone telling me to be quite (joke).

That is because I think everyone is going to and joining the GoldProspectorsspace.com site. It is becoming the biggest and fastest growing site for ALL types of  prospecting. Who you find a lot of the people on there are from here and the are the best group of people you will find on the web. They have a talk show on Sunday nights with special guests covering all forms of prospecting. Even Dominic is on the site. Check it out and tell them I sent you....
