Rain Storms & Sluice Box excellent for collecting concentrates while you sleep !!     5/12/2016

if you have personal; access to a stream and can secure your sluice box in the stream,.. why  not leave it there instead of in the storage shed ding  nothing ,..?  let  the rain storms sweep and move tons of materials right through your sluice box,..  weeks , months of collecting during storms or just running every day stream  water  makes a difference ,.. how  much difference ,..?  YOU will  know when you go to lift out  your sluice box the difference because of a major weight difference . excessive black sand accumulation is a good sign that major rain water has pushed streambed turbulent materials  right through your sluice box.. Go prospecting in the rain without even getting wet,..   Clean out  your sluice box  mats after weeks or months of rain storms and see and feel the difference ,.. You  will  notice  more float gold mixed in with  the black sand build -up. The picture below is float gold as seen in the bottom of a purple coffee cup

I hear the ancients used to just leave sheepskins in the rivers to collect the gold. Hence, the story of the Golden Fleece. This totally makes sense. Now if I can just figure out how to secure my sluice in my creek out back. The past 3 weeks of non-stop rain has created a huge flooding of the creek.

I have one that was given to me lately .You should see what the BIG rocks did to it .The only thing usable was the expanded metal in it ,and only very little at that.

If you have access and permission, might put down a tarp (like the blue ones) and then anchor a few 4x4's across to act as riffles.  Might be tough to get the material out and then fold up the tarp as the 4x4's come out working from the bottom up.

I have a small seasonal creek behind my cabin and always thought that although there is vey little gold on this side of the mountain that with time a little would add up. So I put a sluice back there. In the spring it was gone. Someone needed it apparently more than I did. It was an old one but still......

So next I put a rug downstream from a small 6" waterfall. Spring came and I couldnt find it. Finally did, wadded up in a mess... buried in flood sand. So I rebuilt it again, this time staked it down real well, put 2x2's down for riffles, and added a metal can dug down right under the drop from the little water fall. Im looking forward to seeing the results....

I'll definitely be awaiting the results. I have a creek on my property, with a few stable (stream doesn't move much) sections I'm thinking of dropping in a permanent sluice to catch anything passing by. I suspect I could always put down the first home-built sluice that I don't use anymore because it's too ugly and has lots of sharp screws and edges to make it usable.
