My 6th trip to the desert and I finally found my first desert gold, 3 small pieces of gold with my Goldbug2. So is this claim 40 or 160 acres? The old mining guide says 40 acres. A SW claim marker or SW GPS coordinates would be real helpful. A lot of tailing piles near the south end of the claim so someone must be finding gold in the area. I dug about 300 signals, a lot of real small trash in 4 days, so I don't think it has been detected a lot, mostly dry washer activity. I found my 3 pieces in a unworked area in a small gully so the potential for more gold should be good. I'm going to head there again in February 2018 if I can get away.

Made it back to the ADK on Feb.13th, this time my plan was to MD the NW section of the claim, this area has had a lot of mining done on it (dry washing). I spent about 8 hours working this area with a Goldbug2, 5' coil but didn't have any luck (or skill). My last day there I wondered towards the south central part of the claim and found 5 small flakes in a small gully that I must have missed my last time there in November. There is an old mining shaft located in the NW section, does anyone have any info on the mining shaft, I MD the material around the opening but didn't find anything good just a lot of trash?

Tried my luck at ADK today. Missed a turn on the trail in and wound up entering from the north rather than the south. The trails were in pretty good shape despite the recent rains. Since I was already at the north end I detected that area using a gold bug 2. Found about 20 birdshot bb's and a few 22's. Pretty clean area though, despite the birdshot. I covered a lot of ground. No nails and the usual iron junk. No gold unfortunately, so I'll have to go back and try more ground. I have a dry washer on the way, so probably once arrives. Also, Verizon cell coverage is great at this site. Not essential but nice to be able to check your location on Google earth on the cell phone, get in touch with the better half, etc.
