Hi Dredger49er,
He isn't saying there aren't any shows except the alaska shows... he is saying there are no NEW shows other than those. I agree with that. HOWEVER: Tom did drop by the forum a while back and said they have a number of new shows taped and getting them ready to go on the air. They had some issues with the high def processing or editing or something, but it was high def related.. The new shows should be coming out as soon as they are ready. They were gold fever shows, with Tom, and he mentioned one with his wife on a dredge, and a number of others. We are all looking forward to seeing them when they come out. Tim L |

Welcome fellow swabbie! Are you checking out all the GPAA shows on the Outdoor Channel? Prospecting America, Gold Prospecting and Gold Fever are all available. I am a member of LDMA and enjoy being a member. You get some good info from the shows and from your membership.

Not watching close enough. Shows all the time about gold in California, Colorado, Georgia and other states. If you become a member, you get the Claims Gude that gives areas in most states to look for gold. Michigan even has a LDMA camp with gold to be found.

I'm also a member of many forums , and I do think that lots of controls are conducive to attracting member ship , if for no other reason , it does seem to be the way most other forums work , people do not want to lean a hole new process at each forum ,
At this point , the thing that I find a hassle , is when I check my e-mail , and there is a notice that there is a response to a post I made , I link to the reply in my e-mail , go to loge in , and then it takes me to the forums home page , now I have to find the place I was linked to myself , unlike other forums , the e-mail link takes me to the response , then if I chose to post I have to log in . When go looking for new to me forums and I have to log in before I can see if I'm interested in that forum I just move on , so they get less members . Hopefully you can get the bugs worked out . |

CarpetJohn3:
You couldn't be more RIGHT ON this suject. Leave the forum just the way it is. I'm in the process of setting up my own portal/forum and the last thing I want is spammers screwing it up.
If it ain't broke>>>Don't fix it

It seems to me that the site is working just fine the way it is set up, and I like NOT having some spammer get on the site and start sending spam by email.
I'm on different prospecting web sites and this is a email from one of the sites that was sent to me today, at one time it was a nice site without spam....
( I joined this group to be amongst fellow gold lovers but it seems
more and more that this is just a great spot for spammers. I think I am going to have to back out of this group 'cause I do not need a new house, do not want to look at hot chicks on webcam, I am not looking for a hot guy (I am married to one) and I do not believe you will be any smarter for giving your money to a school you do not have to attend to get a degree you do not deserve! I am sure I will meet some of you true gold lovers on some of the other groups...) I sent this person a email and told them to take a look at this site as we don't have that problem, and I hope we never do...
The search engines know about the site and if someone is looking for the site search will direct them to this site, but to open it up to a search engine in anyway I would think would just be asking for trouble...
My vote is to leave it as is because once you open the door, even alittle you may never be able to get the bugs out once they have gotten in...

Couldn't you just make it so login is required to view profiles or post? Having visitors who are curious about prospecting, find the boards via a seach engine and read a few posts doesn't strike me as a negative. Blocking those same search engines entirely means fewer people finding the information they're looking for.
I understand the privacy concern, but it seems like setting guest permissions to allow reading, but not posting or profile views would achieve the same goal without cutting off information to the curious.
