From Ridgeway take Hwy. 62 to Placerville which continues straight as Hwy. 145 - continue down San Miguel Canyon River Rd, and then pull off to left once you cross the bridge right into a curve. Once the bridge crosses the San Miguel River there is a parking place with the BLM signs labeling Recreational Mining Area. This is a place that is flatten out which is great for sluicing, upstream from this bridge is Recreational, however downstream from bridge is Privately Owned Claims. Do Not Trespass onto these.
